Tyson doesn't belong 5th to be honest. Foreman in his prime before the Ali fight would have taken him just like he did Frazier. Frazier's style is similar and that would have been a interesting matchup.

Ali...the consummate heavyweight

Larry Holmes..jab like a hammer and knew how to finish

Joe Louis..dont think he could have stayed with top 2 in their prime

Tyson...no....scary but not too many skills..exposed by Buster Douglas

Jack Johnson + maybe Evander

One of my favs.from Canada...George Chuvalo. He used to get his butt kicked but he was a gamer

So Cal
If we go strictly by boxers in their prime, I would say
1. Ali
2. Marciano
3. Holmes - very under-rated
4. Louis
5. Several others too close to call
Ali would be too big and fast for Marciano. Again, forget the blown-up, pst his prime Holmes, and look at his at his best. He was superb.

I suppose it is just me, but I believe Larry holmes was a very good heavyweight lucky to be in his prime in the 80's. If he had fought in the 70's he would have been at least 5TH best. Four fighters better than he
(1)ALI
(2)FRAZIER
(3)FOREMAN
(4)NORTON

If he had fought Ali in his prime, Ali would have beaten him like a rented mule..........

I believe the fighters in the 70's were lucky that L Holmes was just a kid. Saw them all and Holmes was as patient and punishing with a lightning quick, thunderous jab as any. A good defensive fighter, and a great closer. Felt sorry for most who had to fight him cause he did a lotta damage and was unbeatable in his prime. jmho

Rocky Marciano..could hit, but could also be hit...a lot. God, look what Ezzard Charles did to him.Yeah, the Rock was a favorite but against the big boys who came later..it would probably be messy.

bear, I hear you. Holmes was never tested because there was no one to test him in his day so naturally he looked great in my opinion. This is one area we just happen to disagree. I respect your opinion though and wish you good luck today with your plays.....
