Red Sox confirm Torii Hunter's 'experience' with racism at Fenway is 'real'
By Blake Harper | Last updated 6/11/20

Last week, former outfielder Torii Hunter explained his experience with racism in the MLB, saying that level of racial taunts he heard at Fenway Park caused him to put the Red Sox in no-trade clauses in his contract. The Red Sox have responded by fully supporting Hunter's claim while acknowledging the unacceptable amount of racial slurs that take place every year at Fenway.

"Torii Hunter's experience is real. If you doubt him because you've never heard it yourself, take it from us, it happens," the Red Sox said in a statement. "Last year, there were 7 reported incidents at Fenway Park where fans used racial slurs. Those are just the ones we know about. And it's not only players. It happens to the dedicated Black employees who work for us on game days. Their uniforms may be different, but their voices and experiences are just as important."

During an appearance on Golic and Wingo, Hunter dove into his troubling experiences as a player at Fenway.

"I've been called the N-word in Boston 100 times," Hunter said. "Little kids, with their parents right next to them. ... That's why I had a no-trade clause to Boston in every contract I had."

In the statement released by the Red Sox, they said "there are well-established consequences for fans who use racial slurs and hate speech in our venue, and we know we have more work to do." The team's sincere acknowledgment of the issue seems to have convinced Hunter, as he tweeted out his support of the team's statement on Twitter with the caption: "Change starts now. Much love!"

There are ignorant white people, black people, brown people everywhere not just Boston

This....

Boston is a great city with loyal fan support, some of that support can/will go over the line in their taunts of opposing players....

This was eye opening what Torii experienced and how it led him to place a "No trade to Boston" in his contract....Always baffled me why some players wouldn't want to come to the Sox, in this case I don't blame him....:0008

Absolutely there are ignorant folks everywhere.
lacking knowledge or awareness in general; uneducated or unsophisticated.

There are also

Prejudice is when a person negatively pre-judges another person or group without getting to know the beliefs, thoughts, and feelings behind their words and actions. A person of any racial group can be prejudiced towards a person of any other racial group. There is no power dynamic involved.

Bigotry is stronger than prejudice, a more severe mindset and often accompanied by discriminatory behavior. It?s arrogant and mean-spirited, but requires neither systems nor power to engage in.

Racism is the system that allows the racial group that?s already in power to retain power. Since arriving on U.S. soil white people have used their power to create preferential access to survival rights and resources (housing, education, jobs, voting, citizenship, food, health, legal protection, etc.) for white people while simultaneously impeding people of color?s access to these same rights and resources.Though ?reverse racism? is a term I sometimes hear, it has never existed in America. White people are the only racial group to have ever established and retained power in the United States.

those folks in Boston probably are not ignorant.

Their like others across this land are just worthless racist.
