Playing one tournament matchup.

Will be swamped the next four days with the Madness, but have a little time today to explain the pick.

Z.Johnson over OHair EVEN

Id play this up to -115 really. Zach leads the tour in birdie average, ranks fourth in ball-striking, 17th in greens hit, sixth in putting and 13th in the all-around ranking, yet has failed to record a top 10 in five starts. Hes steady, and while its unlikely that he will win, he will be there on Sunday.

OHair won this event two years ago and has missed the cut three of the other four times. He hasnt missed a cut this year as of yet and that could change. I'll take consistency and a better GIR rating on an event that was rated in the top 10 most difficult a year ago. Transitions isnt about the spectacular, its about saving par. Would be great to have this bet won by Saturday if OHair shits the bed and doesnt make the cut again here at Innisbrook. Those bets have always been my favorites.

You will probably raise your eyebrows at a couple of these picks.

D Johnson 30-1 win, 15-1 place, 7 1/2 show

Every 80-1 win, 40-1 place, 20-1 show

Great to see last week over. Never cashed one ticket. I had a little run with Overton in Puerto Rico, but he didn't show up on Monday.

My pick this week is John Senden, who plays under the radar most of the time. Maybe a hair past his prime, he has won once on the PGA Tour. Although cut last year, he has two big seconds, the two years previous. Decent start to this year with steady improvement.

John Senden to win 61.00 sia

I also liked CH3 and BVP, but I'm so tired of throwing my money down those two ratholes. They win match-ups for me, but they just can't win for the big payoff. I liked Flesch a lot, his odds at Betfair were 390-1, but I was offered 176-1 only. That pissed me off. I don't figure Flesch to win, but I expect him to make the cut. And if he makes the cut, he could get lucky. I also had Baird and Byrd, (they sound like a law firm) but hell, I liked Senden better.

JB Holmes continues his march to the Ryder Cup. He waved at Boo as they passed each other. Somebody tell me what's wrong with Boo. I'm begining to think he isn't and never was as good as his hype.

Senden over Cink +100

Cink didn't come up anywhere during my study sessions. I know he's a very good player, but he just didn't show up. I guess that means Senden wins.

Lehman over Perez -110

I'm really surprised that Perez isn't a big favorite here. How old is Lehman anyway, 75? It seems like he's been around forever, like Couples. I'm expecting Perez to mail it in here.

Round 1 play (4pts):

Vijay Singh to beat Padraig Harrington +110 @ FiveDimes
Surprised by this price. Pod was poor on Sunday and even though he did finish 3rd, it was the first time in over 5 years (13 events) that he had finished in the top-10 in an event in Florida. With no course experience, he really shouldn't be the favourite against Singh who has been playing much better (he has ranked 2nd and 3rd in greens in regulation in the last two weeks' events) and whose course form record reads: 2nd, 1st, mc, 19th, 19th.

Someone I have a lot of respect for also had Sabbatini this week.

I can't figure this one out. If you don't mind, can you explain what guided this choice?

Round 2 play (2pts):

Jerry Kelly to beat James Nitties -165 @ FiveDimes
Opposing Nitties even though he finished 3rd last week in Puerto Rico ... he had missed each of his previous six cuts this year and missed the cut here last year. In fact, Nitties has shot a higher score than Kelly in every single round this year. With the Australian playing in the much easier conditions yesterday morning and still finishing behind Kelly on the leaderboard, I can't see a reversal of relative fortunes today.

Round 3 play (2pts):

Jim Furyk to beat Padraig Harrington +112 @ Pinnacle [also available @ FiveDimes, Carib and WSEX]
Surprised to see Furyk as such a large underdog. Harrington does have a one-shot lead to defend and for all his Major Championship titles, he has held the lead after 36 holes just once previously since the start of the 2008 season. Going further back to the 2003 season, Harrington has held the 36-hole lead eight times, but has shot below 70 in the 3rd round just once. Admittedly, Furyk hasn't won since 2007, but that will matter more tomorrow, his track record suggests that he will remain in contention for at least 18 more holes.
