I was gonna take this week off but the field here is actually pretty strong. Anyone know if Singh and Hefty still plan on playing? Both were injured .. and I don't see either one carrying that much value.

Vijay has played the week after the U.S. Open in 7 of the last 10 years (no wins) and I'd expect him to remain in the field.

As for Mickelson, he has played the week after the U.S. Open just once since 1999, but that was in this event in 2002 and he won. That said, I'd expect him to not start this event given his wrist injury.

"Phil Mickelson, who missed the cut at the U.S. Open to end his streak at 30 in majors, said he would do his best to play this week at Hartford, which he has won twice. He saw a doctor on his 37th birthday Saturday and was considering having another cortisone shot on his sore left wrist. Lefty will make a determination early this week about whether he can play. Two fewer rounds at Oakmont probably helped."

Anyone see that playoff on the nationwide last week? Riley a former ryder cupper was goin up against the ncaa champion who got a sponsors invite. Pretty cool stories.

I assume List will play about 8 to 10 sponsor invites. He will have to do well so he wont need to go to q school. Same situation as ryan moore, tiger or jason day. He is a good guy to back.. knowing the situation he is in. Although I think i would wait til later in the year when the fields are weaker.

CROMWELL, Conn. -- Phil Mickelson withdrew from this week's Travelers Championship to rest his inflamed left wrist that he injured while preparing for the U.S. Open, a spokesman for his management company said Monday.

Mickelson, who injured his wrist while chipping from rough at Oakmont (Pa.) Country Club on Memorial Day weekend, has been told not to play golf for at least two weeks, according to T.R. Reinman, a spokesman for the sports management company that represents him. Reinman said he is not sure when Mickelson will play next.

''He'll continue his therapy. He'll continue to be monitored by his specialist, and there will be a determination after that,'' Reinman said.

Mickelson failed to make the cut at last week's U.S. Open, ending a streak of 30 consecutive majors in which he made the cut. The inflammation hurt so badly that he didn't play a full practice round before teeing off Thursday.

Bodog.com has Mickelson listed at +1200 to win the 2007 British Open.

Travelers tournament director Nathan Grube said he hoped Mickelson, who won the tournament in 2001 and 2002 when it was the Greater Hartford Open, would return next year.

''I feel bad for him because he wanted to come, he wanted to come back. He plays well on this course,'' Grube said.

The opening round of the tournament starts Thursday and continues through Sunday at the TPC at River Highlands

Outright plays (total stake per play: 1pt)

Stewart Cink to win 20/1 e.w. @ Boyle Sports [6 places]
A quick look at the last three years shows that the winner of the event immediately following the U.S. Open had been 57th (2006), mc (2005) and mc (2004) in the U.S. Open. The strain of being in contention for your home Open, particularly as it is the most difficult test in golf, should be an impediment to winning the following week. If that repeats itself this year, these selections should have a very good chance. Cink missed the cut last week, but his form had been good enough to earn him three top-5 finishes in his previous five starts. And now he returns to a course on which, not only did he finish in the top-5 last year, but he was also a winner in 1997 and runner-up the following year. With Mickelson now withdrawn from this event, he is the only one of the leading players to have been rested at the weekend and that should greatly improve his chances of victory this week.

Kenny Perry to win 50/1 e.w. @ Boyle Sports [6 places]
Perry didn't play last week and so should be even better prepared for this event ... and he certainly is physically, having lost 20 pounds in the last six months. Now, with a new belly putter and a swing tip that transformed his game at the Memorial (he finished 3rd, having been 41st at the cut), he looks a potential winner again. Given this week's schedule placing after the U.S. Open and his past achievements of six top-10 finishes on this course (including three in the last five years), his chances of victory are much better than 50/1.

Woody Austin to win 50/1 e.w. available generally
It was disappointing to see the selection, David Toms, fail to win the St Jude Championship two weeks ago, but Austin was in awesome form in the final round. He shot 62 that day to cantor to a five-shot victory. After that performance, described by his caddy as "the most impressive round of golf I've ever seen, I've never seen anybody in my life hit it like that", his missed cut last week is to be expected and is surely a blessing in disguise for this event. He will really feel that he has a good chance of winning here having played like that and especially after his performances on this course in the last three years: 1st, 9th and 5th. By any combination of current and course form, he has to be value at these odds.

I dont even remember this tourney last year? Must not have been that exciting :mj07:Anyone got any info on the course? It looks like driving distance and girs are whats important
A few names that stick out just lookin at 05 and 06 are Austin, Mahan and Sutherland, those aren't even leans just ones that seem to reoccur. I got a really good feeling this might be the course that Kim wins on. He seems to fit both of those categories mentioned above and is coming off a 67 at the Open. (although 33 to 1 isnt value considering he's never won or put together 4 consistent rounds). It seems like birdies are plentiful here and thats one thing Kim can do is make birdies.

Stuart Appleby saying good-bye to Oakmont: "I didn't really play well all week. I'm not sure that, you know, even the winner feels like they played well. I think they sort of survived. By the end of the week, it's really, you're teetering on psycho behavior, and that's pretty normal I think for most of the guys. Cause I played every practice round this week, so it was a seven day course for me. If you're not just hanging on and making pars, if you start moving the other way like I did, it will just slap you in the head, constantly, and by the time you get to 18, you just, you know, you've had enough. And then you go talk to the media."

Benbrook
Date: June 21 ? 24, 2007
Location: TPC River Highlands ? Cromwell, CT
2006 Champion: J.J. Henry
FedEx Cup points: 25,000
2007 Purse: $6.0 million ($1,080,000 to winner)

2006 Recap
Hometown favorite J.J. Henry made a lifelong dream come true by winning the tournament he'd attended regularly as a boy growing up in Fairfield, CT. He fired a three-under 67 on Sunday, which was enough to top runners-up Hunter Mahan and Ryan Moore by three strokes.

2005 Recap
Another local favorite and Travelers (then Buick) Championship regular Brad Faxon finally won one of his favorite events. The veteran fired a course-record 61 on Sunday to come charging from behind to tie South African Tjaart van der Walt on No. 18, then dropped in a three-footer for birdie on the first playoff hole to claim his first PGA win since 2001.

The Course
Though not particularly long, a mammoth par five and a number of tough par fours keep even the big boppers honest at River Highlands. Generous bunkering and undulating fairways and greens continuously keep golfers on their toes.

The Field
It wouldn't do fantasy golfers much good to play their top draft pick when he doesn't plan on teeing it up, which is why fantasy owners have to be very cognizant of who is playing each week. As a courtesy, we've provided this link to the official field as provided by PGATOUR.com.

Note: It's a good idea to check this list for the official field of players again on Wednesday, as it is not unusual for golfers to drop out of tournaments in the days leading up the first round.

Two-time champion and scheduled main attraction Phil Mickelson was forced to withdraw, but the event formerly known as the Buick Championship got a jolt from a new sponsor that significantly boosted the purse and has attracted a handful of carry-overs from last week's U.S. Open. The higher stakes and a strong enough field should keep things interesting this weekend in Connecticut.

The Favorites
David Toms has never recorded a top-10 finish at TPC River Highlands despite six tries, but his play last week at Oakmont (T5) and his overall body of consistent work this season is an indication that he's ready to break into the winner's circle at any moment. Vijay Singh has to be in any discussion of favorites despite the fact that he's teed it up at this event just three times in his career. He has two top 15s in those three appearances, so don't count him out. Zach Johnson has lost some steam over the past several weeks, but a third place finish in Cromwell in 2004 is an obvious indication that he can go low at River Highlands. Padraig Harrington will stick around after voyaging to the States for the Open. He's never played this event, but should be a factor before it's all said and done. Among those who have fared well at River Highlands in seasons past are 1997 trophy-hoister Stewart Cink and veteran Mark Calcavecchia, who has seven career top 10s on his Travelers Championship resume. Justin Rose has been remarkably successful this season despite a balky back that has limited his appearances. Given that he finished third at this event two years ago, he's one to keep an eye on.

The Best of the Rest
Despite the presence of a few top-notch players, the field thins out pretty quickly. That should leave room for plenty of darkhorse candidates this week. Two worth watching are 2006 co runners-up Ryan Moore and Hunter Mahan. Both have struggled throughout most of this season but have shown signs of life in recent weeks. It's probably too much to ask for Woody Austin to win twice in a three-week span, but the 2004 champion of this event hasn't dropped out of the top 10 at River Highlands in three seasons. The same can't be said of either of the last two champions ? both J.J. Henry and Brad Faxon have struggled since their respective victories.

Who's Hot?
Hunter Mahan: Last year's co-runner-up could be peaking again at just the right time. After an extremely slow start to the season, Mahan has recorded two straight top-20 finishes, including a solid T13 last week at Oakmont.

David Toms: After an impressive T5 at the U.S. Open, Toms has still not missed a cut this season and has six top-10 finishes in 15 2007 events.

Who's Not?
Brad Faxon: The 2005 champion of this event has missed more cuts (22) than he's made (15) in the last two years, including just two made cuts in 12 tournaments this season.

Nick Watney: Since earning his first career PGA TOUR title in April at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, Watney has missed four cuts in his last six events.

Player Trends
It's not a fool-proof indicator of future success, but golfers who fare well at a particular venue tend to do so time and again. With that in mind, we provide a list of players who have notable trends at this week's event (most recent results are listed first).

The Good
Ryan Moore (T2 in tournament debut last year)
Stewart Cink (four top 10s in nine appearances)
Kirk Triplett (just one missed cut, seven top-15 finishes in 15 trips to TPC River Highlands)
Mark Calcavecchia (Two runner-ups, seven top-five finishes in 24 attempts)
Jerry Kelly (Cut, T4, T13, Cut, T7)

The Bad
Jason Gore (WD, T73, Cut, Cut)
Dean Wilson (T51, Cut, Cut)
Brett Quigley (Cut, T71, T20, T76, Cut, Cut, Cut)
John Rollins (T25, Cut, Cut, Cut)
Tom Lehman (played this event just once since 1992, has never finished better than T62)

The Ugly
Brett Wetterich (Cut, Cut, Cut)

Word on the street is vijays ankle and elbow are pretty bad. Expect for him to sit out a few weeks after this event. I think this is more of a valiue play. I almost took Rose over Vijay but I went with zach since it gives you 30 more cents.
