Each game is a new game, trends are blowen up bs to justify ones picks, hell i can find a trend to fit anything now a teams tendencies are different and good to look at stat wise for that year.but they also change due to coaches and players for a given team.

There is value in line trends. For example, Colts are 7-0-1 ATS this year when -6 or lower or getting points. Last year they were 7-4-1 ATS in this situation in the regular season. The year before, 3-1 ATS. The year before, 6-2 ATS. Obvious value on the Colts when they are not giving a boatload of points.

Another trend was that Wyoming had been outscored 170-30 in five games this season against winning teams. Now, that one didn't carry in their bowl game as they won SU against Fresno. It was still valuable information and if it meshed with other things in support of Fresno then you have something to work with. If it was just one of 20 points in Fresno's favor while Wyoming had 20 things going their way, well, then it's just noise.

Some people might call these trends, I call them information. And when more information piles up to support one side than the other, then go with that side.

A trend is not something along the lines of the Cincinnati Reds are 8-13 on Tuesdays. That's a coincidence. Next Tuesday's performance will not hinge upon the previous Tuesdays.

A trend is not something like the Raiders have defeated the Vikings five straight times dating back to 1983. That has nothing to do with the current editions.

Last night on MNF they said something like Jason Campbell has started 50 of the last 53 Redskins games. I would think it is very valid to look at the lines of all of Jason Campbell's starts and see if there is any value in certain situations. Are the Redskins 2-8 ATS when favored by double digits with Campbell, meaning he is overvalued? Are they 5-14 ATS in games of +/-3, which are basically even games, meaning he doesn't help his team rise to the occasion? Are they 7-2 ATS when double-digit dogs, which means he doesn't stink as bad as some think? Those would be valueable trends to find.

But pick the opposite of what happened in Sunday Night Football is not a trend. It's guessing.

There is a difference between a streak and a trend is how I look at it. I admit to winng a lot of money riding the Flip Flop.....streak as I would call it.

They will list 10-20 trends for a team and then list 10-20 trends again that team and do the same thing with the team they are playing.

What trends do we pick? The ones that we think are better?

I know Al uses them and he's very successful, so I guess I can't argue against them, that for should

I guess I just don't know how to use them.

i use trends as a suppliment to other capping stuff i do....& as far as being successful, i guess you haven't been reading my bowl thread jack....right now i couldn't pick the winner even if i knew what the score would be....it's the worst streak that i have had in some time....

So Cal
Jack and Fletcher hit it right on the head. If you use the very reputable and excellent data provided by Statfox (well worth the price IMO), you will be exposed to every trend imaginable. I like Statfox but not for trends. If you like trends, munch on this for awhile. Here are some (LOL) trends for tonights NBA game between Portland and San Antonio. You might want to give your self some time to sort through these trends and pick the ones you like :mj07: Unfortunatley I cannot put the entire post in one post because it is 58, 130 characters long and it will only take 40,000. So more in the next post.

So Cal
I did that to sort of prove a point about the treachery of trends. But there are times I use them, especially for over/unders as concerns the two teams playing. It is just one small factor in many. So if I like a game under and their history in the last 3 years is 75% over, I certainly give it another look. I don't think it is much help in football because of the lack of games. But hoops, hockey and baseball play enough against each other to at least look. I would never make a play based solely on a trend.

The fact that online books send you trend information in the mail and provide it on their site is proof enough that the information is meaningless/useless.

I can think of one, off the top of my head, that an old timer told me years ago before the internet.

A team playing it's 3rd road game in a row doesn't fare well.

But in today's info world, all that is already figured into the line.

You cannot win at this with the advantage the books have unless you have more money than God to move the lines to your favor.

Christ, all the books have the same line anymore. Not to mention, if you beat the shit out of your local, he might not pay you.

I don't believe anybody makes a long term profit at sportsbetting and especially enough to make a living from it. Maybe a small percentage of ONE percent can.

And I don't mean a whole 1%, I mean a small percentage of 1% :D

You can't convince me so don't try.

Well a monkey should be able to pick 50% and we add all our knowledge and the books are making a making a pretty good living because we can't hit 60%.

I like to bet on streaks extending. Not very scientific but what the heck.

I think streaks is a good strategy - especially in baseball. Again, it is only one part of the overall plan, but it is helpful in baseball. I think the best use of any information is what is best for you.

Must agree with Jack - points well taken.

what i believe the secret to winning money betting all sports......ALWAYS INVEST YOUR MONEY IN THE BETTER TEAM....dont bet bad teams.....look for situations when the better team had UNDER-achieved in its last game and they are playing a bad team that has OVER-achieved In their last game.

RECENT EXAMPLE....last monday nite....
nyg off a home loss to philly...lost by 7 in a pick game......played wash. off a blowout road win at oakland....
think we all would agree that nyg is a better team than wash....
also what you look for is based on these two recent games....nyg lookin bad and wash looked good....you look for the public....jumping on the worse team...wash....read different post pick forums like madjacks and see what majority of people are on.....you see alot of support for the bad team [wash] then this helps solidy my play on nyg even more.....those websites and sporrtsbooks that release public percentages are bullshit in my opinion....you get a true feel for public opinion right here at madjacks and other sites like this one...

also the recent loss by nyg and big win by wash..line gets adjusted down...in my favor as linesmakers know wash will get support based on last game....nyg -3 was a gift in my opinion...
i would say if nyg played wash ten times on a neutral field nyg the way more talented team would easily win 8 of 10 times...

ANYWAY....this approach can be used with all sports...find a winning team in a favorable situation.....off a bad loss....winning teams are winning teams because they win...they have talented players....they play with heart and dont like to lose...so they usually bounce back with a strong effort...

match this up with a bad/losing team that just won big.....bad teams revert to their losing ways...

winning takes being selective and discipline and i try but im def. not there yet...sticking to your winning plan and avoiding action plays is key...

as far as trends go.....i look for league-wide trends...in other words how teams react to certain situations...i dont look at individual teams i look at all the teams...and i research these situations myself.....think this is key...develop your own trends...research them...what you are looking for is unique situations that could alter the emotion of teams performance in its next game....

heres one for JACK for mlb that if you only played this all season you would win money every year...and its so simple.....bet on any winning team....has to be a team with .550 win percentage or more...bet this team after theyve lost 2-games in a row and only if they are pickem or a dog...there is usuall about 200 plays a year...last year it was 100-78...key is you are always playing the dog...getting plus money back with a winning team...this will make money every for you every year...if you are disciplined enuff to stick with....
so jack, try it this baseball season and you will win money!!
then you can stop saying that you cant win betting sports...

o well im done...bored waiting to go to christmas eve dinner with family...hope this helps someone...

gluck all and merry christmas
