I have that info also, he has set a players meeting for today at 550 pm , would not think it was set for any other reason but to say he is going to a bcs school, if he does not take the job it will go to david cutcliffe from duke i think.

The guy is a good coach, but is this the best they could get? Its going to be tough to win in the SEC with a form of the option offense against those defenses. Air Force pretty much had six gimmie wins per year, FBS school, Wyoming, NMEX, SDST, Army and UNLV, and they were 2-7 under Calhoun against the three better teams in the MWC

pretty sure he ran that offense at AF because he had the players to do so...he wont have to do that at TN...he ran pro style as OC with the texans and at wake forest...also was under shanahan...so to think he comes into Tenn and tries to install the wishbone or option whatever you want to call it isnt going to happen. with the talent he will have at Tn he will be able to run whatever offense he wants

Calhoun was not approached this time, he was #2 last time, but the meeting is for the DC leaving.

Muschamp still wants to be an assistant for another 5 or so years, so, even though it is not going to go over well, they are going to hire David Cutcliffe - mark it down.

My choice would be Edsall from UConn, but don't think they are even talking to him

Could be worse.
There has been mention of Kevin Steele.
That would not be a good hire.

:mj07: That would be awful

My only request is that the incoming coach have integrity. I did not like the chest thumping of Kiffin. Never knew a coach that had to tell everyone how good they were before showing everyone how good they are. Saban, Meyer, Tressel - none of those guys has to "make a splash" by talking - they do it on the field.

yes af gave a statement 25 mins ago saying calhoun is going to be there head coach at af still

now you can almost call it a lock that cutcliffe gets the job, hell he is 4 in line won't look to good if he is the 4th person to say no thanks for tenn. they have had some very good players change their mind on being a vol next year over the last few days.

Eric - just got off the phone with my contact in the athletic dept. and he indicated there is a "wild card" that is a possibility. He refused to tell me and that is saying something because he would normally tell me.

My take would be to pass on Cutcliffe - let Kippy take it for a year and if he doesn't do very well, see what is available next year. A rush should not be the #1 importance. Kippy runs a hell of an offense and Lance Thompson would be DC.

I still want Edsall and hope that is the wild card

Skip that would be the best thing from a coaching stand point, wait for 1 year and get a top of the line proven coach but from a recruiting stand point it is a total nightmare, they would be behind 2.5 to 3 classes of top of the line playes which would take 4-5 years to catch up, would be very bad to do it that way.

i don't think Edsall is willing to move at this point, to late for him, he has proved himself at uconn, he gets taken care of very very well just is not the time of the year to move for him , a month ago yes, mid jan not a good time to move for a d1 coach who has made a good mark in all aspects in d1 as a coach . It puts him behind the 8 ball.
