1st of all. 40% of Austin has lost power including my son who lives on the other side of me in Austin . as they are saying its an Epic winter storm that is the worst in their history. My history now since I live here. With no salt or sand trucks to melt the snow and temperatures in the low teens and last night 6 degrees the only way the snow on the road melts is warmer weather. This morning I went out to buy a cup of coffee and I got maybe 300 yards before I turned back. I have a Subaru Outback with 4 wheel drive. But the roads had the 6 inches of snow we got the other day but that is still on the ground now frozen from last night. I realize that sand and salt doesn't work because there are no trucks .. if you don't plow sand and salt do nothing. My Morton's salt, stolen from my wife's cupboard didn't do anything..,, I never realized how important snow plows were. In NY we could get 2 feet of snow and but once the trucks came out the main roads were clear ... and again the message from TV and the Austin department of transportation is " don't drive most roads and highways are closed but if do drive and get stuck and call the police of fire dept they will ask you " how much gas has do you have in your tank because we can't help you".. I mentioned that yesterday.. WTF kind of a message is that to someone stranded ...
My son ,his wife and 2 girls have no power . His wife and the baby 6 months old went to a friends house last night. My son and my 3 yr old granddaughter stayed in their house .. any road or highway are closed so I cannot get him.. . tonight we are predicated to get another ice storm and single digits temperatures.. his house is 48 degrees . The city of Austin has its power on gridlocks.. They can shut down a part of the city to conserve, But when they went to turn on my sons neighborhood gridlock it blew out the whole neighborhood they cannot restore it.. My daughter and my house are on another gridlock that is near a hospital so they can't turn off the power here..
doglover maybe you can explain it better. .being a native Austinate

Its my wifes birthday today and she put that Keurig machine on and made coffee .. I was planning to lie to her since its her birthday and say it was good.. But it was pretty good.. Java.. Gevalia Kaffe Columbian 100% Arabica Mountain blend.. what mountain ???

I got my local NY newspaper today online and the headlines were, 3 NY State Prisons were closing . in my Hudson Valley we have we have the most state prisons. I think we have 8 medium and maximum facilitys. But the ones closing were all up up state. One was Clinton Correctional in Dannemora
right near the Canadian border. and it was Dannemora HS with a record of 26-0 that I met in the quarter finals of the NY state HS championship regional game. Winner is in the final 4 at the state championships.
Another long and boring ass Box story will come back later to tell it. ignore the story and just go to the games i like today
Just a heads up ...Ok St 's Likely is out.. not sure what he averages but he is a solid player.. still think they beat Iowa St but not sure by how much will pass on the game I think

Back later with XU-St Johns Dayton-URI
I would like to say I'm going outside to shovel but I have no shovel .. just wait for the sun on Friday to melt the snow.

Would like to tell you guys I was out shoveling snow .. but I have no shovel ..so the 6 inches that were on the ground and roads remain. And with the single digit temperatures last night and tonight there will be still 6 inches of snow on the road and grounds.. but now frozen snow.. but Friday we could see some warm weather and just maybe the snow might melt. I will be getting my 2nd gelvalia cup of coffee tomorrow morning .. with the mountain blend since I'm home bound again ..

Dayton +3 over URI ***
Last yr they were 29-2 with Obi.. Obi is on the Knicks and gone. Now they have Ibi who can dribble drive and stick the 3. But the best player on the court is Crutcher who can pass and score. He was 1st team A-10 last yr and could be POY this year. They by beat URI already by 11 but Fats only played under 20 minutes. URI is not playing good lately losing a few in a row. This will be the 1st time I mention the bubble but that has to be on Flyers mind. But I;ll take a FG in a very close game.. last year I was about 4-0 with Obi and this year 0-2 with Ibi But I love Crutcher who handles the ball and not only is the best player on the court tonite but in the A-10

ST Johns -1.5 over XU **
XU owns this series . Johnnies defense is in question. But Johnnies a have stud in Champagnie ,the juco kids are playing well .There is no question they can score avg almost 80 pts a game. They knocked off Nova only to lose last time out to Butler in OT. Posh,Cole and Williams cam score.. they already lost to XU by 4 earlier in the season. Freemantle is back on fire for XU ..this game is being played at Carnesseca Arena on campus where the Johnnies practice everyday instead of MSG in Manhattan .. XU on the FT shoots 67%..Johnnies shoot 74%.. small play but Mullins is not coaching anymore . Anderson is trying to change the culture at St Johns but needs to get them to playing his style of defense. this is a big game for the Johnnies at home .

La Salle +16.5 over St louie *
Billikins are loaded . But they did trip and fall in there 1st meeting vs La Salle who upset them 82-75.. St loiue just beat Fordham 68-40. Rams had 17 1st half points same could happen vs La Salle tonight .. this game has blowout all over it .. but for one * I am going to take the dog after St louie empties its bench ater leading by 20 with 6 minutes to go. Expos get a back door cover..small play

thanks doglover for your local imput... josh are you of down south of us ..

I hope they are all safe and warm enough. That is terrible.

How bizarre is this weather? I've gone so far down the "rabbit hole" over the last year or so but even before I had heard about people trying to tamper w the weather. We used to have a running joke that "Bill Gates is messing with the weather"...not to mention all the chem trails in the past. I don't know too much about it but I do wonder. I've also heard stories in the past of people lighting snowballs and they don't melt but instead burn. MSM has explained it away a few times so of course it must just be a "conspiracy theory".

I've seen a lot of posts on fb today about hotels charging up to $1,500/night for rooms. Just plain evil people.

I'm in NC and many years ago it was a big deal if it snowed. We weren't prepared and for the most part, if it snowed, everything just shut down more or less. The last 10-15 years things have changed. We have a lot of trucks and plows so you'll see the salt go down if it looks like it's gonna be bad and then the next day, most of the main roads are pretty clear. So I can totally see why Texas doesn't want to put a lot of $$ into something that's almost never gonna be used.

Your family is in my prayers and please keep us updated.

Hiya,, BOX, just a quickie

Hiya,, BOX, just a quickie

I mentioned in my post about strange things happening to me for some time now and today is one of them times. Kinda spooky but GOOD. I thought I'd drop in to let you know that I enjoyed every word of your "Texas experience" and you can write whatever you like in "my" threads. These day's I'm having fun in the forum with two yo-yos ; good entertainment.

I responded to your story with reminiscing our experiences in the "good ole days" up North. It didn't hit me until right after I hit the submit thingy that YOU were experience such a snow storm and that was reflected right in your title line. Guess I just never imagined something like that could happen in Texas. Like you indicated - N.Y. and Texas just may need better legislators I don't where the hell the STATE and federal moola goes. BTW Florida has no state tax. I'll cut it short right here by letting you know I look forward to reading your notes here or wherever.

Oooops, almost forgot - hope your wife has a happy birthday. Guess what ??? TODAY is MY birthday.
Tellin ya, Box - Spoooky stuff. I already wrote about the "magic" in my threads and this one takes the cake.

Good luck with your bets,

Happy Birthday Jimboski!! Always love reading your posts!!

Box, I took your 3 picks along with 2 from NBA_Kid...one college and one NBA. I also parlayed all 4 college games.

Went 4-1 and missed LaSalle and hitting that parlay by 4 points (I bought it up to 17). Had a great night! Thanks for the picks and keep the stories coming. God bless and I pray for Texas tonight.
