winner on yesterday's only play as boston college strengthens the case for marking the hall as overrated. now 55-44-2 overall. one play for today but first words of caution about today's play as several factors warrant looking at this one with scepticism:
1. its the only game in town;
2. its both teams' last game before starting conference play;
3. i am leaving early tommorrow morning for los angeles to pull my law alma mater hurricanes on to the national championship and want to record 100 games of decision before i start the second half of the season when i return;
4. as a result of the first three above i have overhandicapped the hell out of this game, usually not good for results.
with all those red flags waving here she is:
texas tech -7: it's fairly easy to make a compelling case on paper for the red raiders. tech coming off strong 20-point comeback win over minnesota, a game that the usually tight-lipped knight called "one of the best things i think we've done this year." tech now a smart 8-0 su, 6-0 ats at home, inclusing credible double digit wins over the aforesaid gophers, san diego state and tcu. knight has the locals believing and as a result every home game thus far a sellout, including this one.
on the other hand, wyoming 1-3 su, 0-4 ats on the road, including losses at detroit and boise state, teams clearly inferior to tech. they strugglesd to a three point win at lowly denver. as a matter of fact, cowboys entire schedule thus far pretty underwhelming. other than an opening thirteen point loss at southern cal, wyoming hasn't played another team ranked in the top 130 of the power ratings i use. in fact six of the twelve teams they've faces are ranked 233 or lower. while these are all nice teams for padding your wins, shooting and rebounding stats, they do little to prepare you to step up against the better teams. cowboys haven't faced anyone who play d like the raiders or who have had the capability to challenge them on the boards.
all things considered, i'll risk a play on the raiders at the current number. while i have no earthly idea where this line might go today, if it moves over -8 i'm out.
gl today everyone and happy new year.
