The Penguins still plan to deploy two men on the forecheck, as they have for most of the past three games, but they also will continue keeping the third forward back unless they are sure of having possession. When they don't have the puck, it will be imperative that all five skaters rush back to fill their assignments, largely because all three opponents on this trip have no qualms about sending their defensemen to join the rush.
This is especially true of the Canucks. In the past nine games, they have gotten eight goals from the defense, as many as Penguins defenders have gotten all season.

Milan Kraft and right winger Eric Meloche were recalled from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Sunday and practiced with the Penguins on Monday at GM Place. They will skate on the same line tonight.

The Penguins are 1-9-0-1 against Western Conference teams

Patrick Elias will return to the lineup tonight when the Devils host the Tampa Bay Lightning at Continental Airlines Arena. Once again he will skate with Scott Gomez while Berglund, a rookie, fills his spot on the "A" line.

"Berglund will stay there for now. Patty hasn't been practicing that much and I didn't want to break up that (Berglund-Jason Arnott-Petr Sykora) line," coach Larry Robinson explained. "I think Berglund is more of a sniper-type player (than a playmaker). He and Gardiner have brought some psychological enthusiasm. You get new faces in there and guys start worrying about their jobs."
