yes, it is a sad story. but allow me to come out on the defense of most human beings.
most of us do have a heart and would have done everything in our reach to avoid that unfortunate accident.
the problem is with a few drivers who are in the lead, who get the full view of what is on the road and either veer off in the last minute to just about avoid hitting that "nuisance", thus forcing the one behind to either do the same or worse, go over that poor animal and kill him. in nolan's case, he did get a full view of the turtle, whereas many of those who were following other cars saw it as they flew past, not being able to react.
there are too many idiots on the road, doped, half-drunk, talking on their celullars, etc. there are just enough of them to make these and worse accidents happen.
i have logged well over a million miles in the good old u.s.a. and have seen just about everything, spending most of my time avoiding idiots, drunks, etc. i normally will pump my brakes, turn on my safety lights, etc., so as to alert those behind me, but even so, there are times when they fly by me and give me a dirty look. this is the price you pay at times for being a decent human being. i won't change, but it does hurt to see this.
you want to hear about some experiences with killer truckers? nah, that is another chapter.
another sad state of affairs in our country, and it touches a bit on average joe's subject earlier.
