sellkirk, the latter one is the movie version of a David Mamet play. Have you seen any of his other movies like "Things Change", "Spanish Prisoner", "House of Games" and "Homicide"?

If you are in sales, Glengary GlenRoss is a must see!

So is Wall Street and Boiler Room. They are all three handed to every new sales guy I hire!

Some great Mamet stories listed here. The movie version of "glenGary Glen Ross" w/ Jack Lemmon is great. Saw the stage version in Chicago with Dennis Frantz-- good show.

JT-

Have seen "House of Games" and while I enjoyed it, I liked "Glengary" a bit more

Will try and find the other two...

Glengarry..is a great movie that is special.
The mivie was filmed in the office where i worked(Prudential office)on Sheepshead Bay Rd.in Brooklyn NY.The interior senes in the office were filmed around 11 pm so the movie would not interfere with the real sales people. The chinese restaurant in the movie was really a bakery. The rumor around the neighborhood was that the movie people paid the owners of the bakery $5000 a day for the use of the bakery. When they filmed the outside scenes they closed the street. But that didn't stop the neighborhood people filling the streets to watch what was happening. The women went wild when Pacino showed up.We have pictures of them filming the movie.
As Dawgball stated this is a must see if you are in sales.I had fights with other salespeople stealing leads. The environment they set up in the movie was a true representation of the sales office that I worked in.Glad that I left that pressure cooker.
If any one hasn't seen The Spanish Prisoner I highly recommend it.

Glengary is one of those movie I have to see at least once a year, seen Wall Street but not Boiler Room. Enjoy Barbarians at the Gate (about the RJR takeover) but the book is better.

have never seen these "Things Change", "Spanish Prisoner", "House of Games" and "Homicide" but will be on the look out for these movies. Thanks will have to track them down, many of the major studio movies I find are booorring.

Jack Lemon was great in Glengary GlenRoss, the whole cast was great.

thanks for all the movies (going to get) and description of where it was shot.

Selkirk,

While I agree with you that GlenGary GlenRoss was a great movie, I have to respectfully, disagree with you on The Big Kahuna.

I go to 2-3 movies a week and would have to say that the Big Kahuna was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. I went in with high expectations, and left feeling that it was garbage. What made it worse, was that I am a big fan of Kevin Spacey's work and also admire most of Danny Devito's movies. It wasn't the acting, it was the script, etc.

Being a salesman myself, maybe it was the large religious angle to the movie, that totally turned me off. Slow, boring, which some movies can still make it decent, this one failed miserably for me.

Just one man's opinion. I would be curious to hear other people from Madjack's take. To see if I was way off on this movie.

Best of Luck,
Groz

Groz it is a slower pacer than Glengary GlenRoss, also do not think it is as good of a movie.

however they are both driven by the script and the characters (acting).
The movie questions your morals, or principles, in fact at the end I do not know if anything was settled, probably not. I felt the characters were the same as at the start of the movie except for maybe Devito.
also it is only 80 minutes and at that it could have maybe been shortened.

Groz have you seen 32 films about Glen Gould, Sweet Hereafter, what do you think of them.

I have a friend and on most films we do not agree on, that is what discussing films....interesting.

thanks

The Sweet Hereafter, and to a lesser degree, Exotica, were two of the better movies of the 90's. But since they were Canadian films, I don't believe those films got the recognition they deserved, nor did Egoyan as a director.

Selkirk,

I have never seen Sweet Hereafter, but will go out and rent it. As far as Glen Gould goes, to be honest, if I had seen anything involving him, it has slipped my mind. I did a search and found that he was a Canadian pianist and I guess a lot deeper.

Maybe I despised The Big Kahuna so much, because the movie just ended and you couldn't even see any moral to the story, etc. I guess they just wanted you to THINK hard about life.

It's nice to hear your views. Have you seen the Indie picture, Sexy Beast, with Ben Kingsley? A very powerful role for him.

Talk to you soon.

Hoops agree I would put Exotica and The Sweet hereafter as two of the best in the 1990s. just saw Exotica on TV it is a great film.

there is a documentary called The Big Show about the Toronto film festival, in it Egoyan talks (only a few minutes) about his experiences trying to get films sold/financed-funny. Sweet hereafter only made money because of International sales.

Groz Sweet Hereafter involves adultery, a bus acident that kills and cripples half the (small towns children), there is incest, drug abuse, and yes it is an up lifting movie.

32 short films about Glen Gould, I never heard or listened to Glen Gould before I saw the movie, it is 32 short films following his birth, and his carreer. someone I know who does not care for classical music gave it 3-5.

I would say if you like Sweet Hereafter, you would also like 32 short films, Exotica, of coarse to different degrees.
have a good friend who did not care for any of them.

if you ever see them Groz let me know (your review).

thanks

Groz will check out Sexy Beast, Glen Gould is thought to be one of the greatest piano players to ever play Mozart, when they sent messages to outer space on (voyager -I think) they sent many greetings and one was him playing Mozart.

The simpsons cartoon did a show based on how the film was done (32 short films of springfield -i think/scary I know that useless information)

only own one Glen Gould CD, and only about 20 classical CDs out of a collection of 250. so not an expert.

thanks
