well, where do we begin.....first etienne....what the hell were etienne and trainer buddy mcgirt thinking?....what were they doing in training camp?.......a guy like etienne gets this big opportunity.....he has obvious liabilities(lack of punching power and a weak chin)....to have a shot, you have to fight a smart fight.....one thing you can`t do,is get inside and rumble...it`s suicide...it`s like a man with no arms in a knife fight....you have to jab(etienne with a height and reach advantage),push tyson away(ala lewis) or clinch when he gets inside....wrestle him and frustrate him if you can.....by all indications, tyson had a poor and sporadic training camp.....the idea is to take this into the middle to late rounds.....etienne`s stamina had been pretty good in previous fights....he has a high punch output...

but, again, what was mcgirt doing in training camp?....etienne was obviously not prepared to fight the type of fight that would give him at least a chance to win....mcgirt has lost some respect from me...it`s almost like they said,"you`re gonna get blown out....lets not kill ourselves trying to win"....going out and standing toe to toe with tyson knowing you don`t punch real hard and have a weak chin?....just give jack the ripper a knife!

i understand that etienne has to fight the fight and that you can`t get blood out of a turnip, but it was obvious that they had no plan.....mcgirt should be ashamed...he gave etienne NO opportunity....

i was happy to see the fans give etienne and mcgirt a fit as they tried to leave the arena....they had a right to feel ripped off...

the good side is we pushed our little nothing bets on etienne+375 and tyson under 4.5 rounds.....and we won a small lunch on jeff lacy under 6 rounds(fletch brought that to my attention-thanks).....

i just get aggravated when i see somebody piss away an opportunity...i know etienne had little chance.....but at least prepare....have a gameplan....protect your weaknesses as best as you can and exploit your opponents weaknesses if possible...don`t play into his strengths.....don`t give jack the ripper a knife...buddy mcgirt,a very bad job of preparation...he owes etienne more than he gave him tonight...

will this help shorten the odds in a future lewis-tyson bout?....probably not enough for me(i hate laying big odds).....

and tonya harding lost....the girl that beat her had better watch her knees :D ...g.l.

Did you notice Ettienee pull his mouth piece out less than a second after hitting the canvas. I know he got drilled but he was well enough to reach for his mouth piece and throw it. He came to collect the 1 million dollar purse and that was about it.

As a person Tyson sucks, as a boxer he's now not much better.

I am though, glad Tyson won in the manner he did and once more the Americans can get on the band wagon shouting him up. He will take on Lennox and once again Lewis will destroy Tyson inside his head. Lewis will jab and keep Tyson a the back foot. When iron, or should I say plasticine Mike comes forward, Lewis will grab hold or slip him to one side.

Their next fight will be as one sided as the last and the result will be the same. Lennox will not let this perverted man have one sniff at the title. IT IS ONE FINAL PAY DAY FOR LENNOX AND HE WILL GO OUT AS A CHAMP. On the other hand, Tyson can follow his dream and once more be chump not champ.

Etienne showed up for the payday is the correct assessment.

british bulldog.... the way the heavyweight division usually works is that Tyson will be allowed to win the next fight with Lewis. and then in the rematch for really big money Lewis will destroy him.

boxing is a mess when you have to think like this to pick a winner.

Why people continue to pay money to see such a farcical sport is beyond me. Etienne took out his mouthpiece, layed there, then popped up, smiled and hugged Tyson. This was yet another fixed fight ending that's nothing other but disgusting.

i totally agree....the only way tyson has even the most remote chance vs lewis is if lewis has a brain injury in the interim.....lewis is a very smart fighter and he only loses when he varies from his gameplan...he has the perfect tools to destroy tyson....

i hope theres an overreaction to this tyson win...but i doubt that the oddsmakers are that stupid....

I don't beleive Americans as a whole are behind Tyson. I for one enyoyed watching Lennox Lewis beat the crap out of him. I would much rather spend my money on Roy Jones or Vernon Forrest. I am still pissed that Riddick Bowe didn't step up and fight Lennox Lewis. That would have been a great fight to watch.

that was a great observation....the fact that we never got to see what probably would have been the most anticipated heavyweight fight of the "90`s"....i must say,as an american,it appeared to me that bowe wanted no part of lewis....i believe he gave up one of his belts rather than fight....i could be wrong....maybe someone can clarify.....

number one if some of you think that was a false you have no clue to boxing, the fight was set for tyson to win you need to understand how boxing wroks.

But that was a short straight bomb with all power from legs and hips in it. a fighter who takes a fall does not go up in the air with rt leg buckled under landing first then falt on back with head bouncing off ring floor. He was drilled lucky the way he landed he did not rip acl in half.

a false kn the boxer will bukle at knees go doen frontwards knees first then elbows hit with head turned side ways un real that you or some of you thought that was a fake punch that was one of the hardest single hits i have seen in 3 years and i think i know the fight game at a above avg pace very above avg.

Most fighters go right for mp so they don't choke on it. The fight was set up because thr br has no movement and would try to go toe to toe pefect set up but fake ko what a ****ing laugh.

tyson will never beat lewis because lewis is to smart he would not be that tight the first 3-4 rounds lewis would give space. because tyson would do the same to anyone out there if they got hit with the power of that punch he through. no one would get up it was as solid and crisp as they come. The fight plan was poor for E but can't change old habits that quick but for those who thought it was a fake punch you have no clue to boxing and i know for a fact i have a great grasp on the sport and my rec speaks for itself that type of rec is not luck.

Sme poeple just make me scratch my head. Way more to boxing then the fight trust me but that punch was crushing.

OK, Fletch... I respect your posts and your handicapping. I looked at the first round again, and yes, that was a big hit. Etienne must be *really* bad if he couldn't last a round with Tyson, a guy far over the hill. At least Tyson is savvy enough to realize that Lewis would beat the tar out of him if they fought. We're all so sick of Tyson and wish he would just quietly go away...

the big e is a below avg fighter imo and he was handed picked for this fight for the reason you saw, boxing is a very complex sport the insides of the sport are not the cleanest this thrilled the boxing higer ups because they will get their ppv and major cash for the sport and that is why it is so screwed up must know the minds of the heads of boxing more then the fighters themself.

hell if there are a few more t-cans throwen at tyson i will be waiting to cash and will be at least 1 more that you can bet wont make it past 5 because boxing rulers want it that way and they will get their pockets filled with the ppv money and tyson will be done but have enough to pay wife(ex) and hose that is behind.

and from there who knows how long till he is broke sad but true.

one thing that can never be taken away is that he is the best i have ever seen for 5-6 years as just a flat out monster with 1 punch power. it will be a long time till you ever see a mike tyson in his prime with the fear he put out and you could see it in the opps eyes before the bell rang and you knew 2 rounds would be long most were 1 and done and that means you are hitting hard.

would i of taken the million no-way that punch could kill the avg guy not worth that risk and that is the truth hell they would have to wipe the piss up as soon as the bell rung even now. i value what little brain cells i have left:D

Man.....I cannot stand it when a guy gets KO'd early and people start yelling FIX. There is no way in the world Etienne took a fall. He got absolutely clocked by a punch that is among the most solid Tyson has ever landed. That thing was a bomb. Now, could he have gotten up? Maybe, maybe not......but the punch itself nearly knocked him out of his shoes (i think it lifted him off the floor a few inches even).

We can't lose sight of the fact that, although Tyson is not the fighter he once was, the man can still punch. You don't lose that ability. I'll even go so far as saying that Tyson is probably the most devestating puncher in boxing history. I'm talking about "one-punch knockout" ability.

I agree with garden that Etienne had no gameplan and sitting there trading punches with Tyson (especially when you can't punch yourself) is deadly. Etienne chose to stand toe-to-toe and he paid for it. He's not the first. If Etienne took a fall, then logic would dictate that the following fighters ALSO took a fall........

Alex Stewart
Henry Tillman
Michael Spinks
Trevor Berbick
Marvis Frazier
William Hosea
David Jaco
Eddie Richardson
Bruce Seldon
Carl "the truth" Williams
Robert Colay
Mike Johnson
5 other no-names.

All of the above guys were counted out in Round One (the majority on 1 punch), not including 7 other guys that never saw round 2. When a guy has 23 1st round KO/TKO's on his resume, I'm not that shocked when #24 hits the canvas.
