United States vs. Spain
Wednesday, 2:25 pm Eastern ? ESPN

The perfect storm occurred in the Soccer Betting Confederations Cup over the weekend as the United States defeated Egypt 3-0 while Brazil shutout Italy 3-0 as the U.S. squeaked into the semifinals where they will play Spain on Wednesday. Getting to the semifinals for the United States was a minor miracle but winning against Spain would be a major one. Spain has won 15 straight matches overall and is unbeaten in their last 35 matches. "Playing Spain is a challenge," U.S. head coach Bob Bradley said, "Their abilities are outstanding, but we know what we have to do to stop them."

Spain is a -1.5 goal favorite with a total of 2.5 over at SBG Global.

The only thing Spain has to avoid is a letdown as they look to face Brazil in the final. "To get to the final against Brazil would be a great game, something we all thought about before coming and we're on the way," Spain defender Joan Capdevila said, "But to think beyond the semifinals would be an error. Who knows if we'll be there or not, so we have to think about the U.S. and that's it."

Spain is simply the best team in the world right now but they say they are not taking anything for granted against the U.S. "I think we start as favorites just as Brazil is favorites against South Africa," Gerard Pique said. "But as yesterday's group play showed, logic doesn't always exist in football. We have to do our work and come out looking to win from the opening moment and then we can start thinking about the final and our next opponent."

Spain is expected to win but the United States did show they have some ability as Charlie Davies, Michael Bradley and Clint Dempsey scored goals against Egypt. Matching up with Fernando Torres and David Villa will not be easy though. Dempsey will again have to play well as will Bradley and Landon Donovan. The United States will probably go back to Tim Howard in goal even though Brad Guzan played well against Egypt. ?I feel good,? Howard said, ?We come into this with high hopes and we?re been given a lifeline, which is really awesome. And that just boosts everybody and gives the mentality of the players better and, obviously, whatever knocks your feeling kind of go away.? Howard believes the U.S. team is ready for the Soccer Betting big match against Spain. ?We?ve faced Italy and Brazil and we?ve taken their best punch,? he said. ?It wasn?t great on the day. But there?s nothing to be nervous about. We know what Spain are capable of, we know what they?re going to bring.?

Confederation Cup semifinals: Analysis and picks

Confederation Cup semifinals: Analysis and picks

Confederation Cup semifinals: Analysis and picks

The semifinals for the Confed Cup go down Wednesday and Thursday. We don't want you going in blind, so we turned to a former oddsmaker for European soccer to help us break down the matches for us.

The odds are lopsided for both semifinal matches. Spain vs. Brazil is the final everyone wants to see, but each of these teams will need to get past lesser opponents in the final four.

Remember to check your bet slips after placing your wagers. If either of these games finishes tied after two halves of play, extra time will follow and possibly penalty kicks. Most bookies pay off on the result of regulation time only unless the bet is ?to advance? or explicitly says that extra time and shootouts are in.

Know what you?re betting on. If there?s any doubt, ask for clarification.

SPAIN (-1.5 -125) vs. USA, Wednesday in Bloemfontein
(Forecast: 38 degrees, cloudy)

Spain crushed its group, scoring eight goals and giving up none. The USA surprised as second-place finishers in the other group after Sunday night?s wild finish. The Americans stunned Egypt 3-0 and Italy fell to Brazil by the same score.

Spain is in fine form and has now won 15 consecutive competitive matches, a modern record. The Americans have stumbled against quality opposition, losing 3-1 to Italy and 3-0 to Brazil. They should provide very little resistance to the Spanish attack and this one will be over at halftime.

Spain -1.5 is widely available. If you?re playing three-way prices don?t lay more than -375. Spain ?to advance? at -550 or better is also worth a bet.

Prediction: Spain 3, USA 0.

BRAZIL (-1.5, -120) vs. SOUTH AFRICA, Thursday in Johannesburg
(Forecast: 43 degrees, clear)

After squeaking by Egypt 4-3 in the opener, Brazil ripped the USA and Italy apart by identical 3-0 scores. This team is loaded with fire power and the players will be keen to impress manager Dunga in the playoffs.

There are 50 men who are good enough to play internationally for Brazil. The 11 who get sent out to do the business in this match will want to keep their jobs.

South Africa hasn?t shown much in this tournament and only landed in the softer group because they are the host nation. South Africa defeated a bad New Zealand team 2-0, was unable to break Iraq down, and was outclassed by Spain.
Host countries have bought off referees before in FIFA competitions and the chance of corruption can never be completely ruled out. A South African win here would be extremely suspicious, though.

Brazil ?to advance? -450 is theoretically worth playing if you can find it and you don?t fear dirty business. But Brazil -1.5 is widely available and is the better play. If you?d rather play the three-way price, Brazil -325 or so is about right.

Prediction: Brazil 3, South Africa 0.
