I am a student at ASU, and a huge fan of the football program. Anyway, I watch ASU very closely, and this is what I know.

QB-Chad Christiansen and Andrew Walter. Christiansen is the starter, but Walter usually comes in for a series or two for a change of pace. Christiansen is listed at 6-3, but he was my next door neighbor in the dorms, and hes 6-3 with heals on. He gets taller everytime I read about him. He is about 6-1 with shoes. He is a scrambling QB with a decent arm, but hes best quality is his smarts. He is out of the Jake Plummer mold, but Jake had a stronger arm. He should be a real good one for the next 4 years, but tomorrow will be the first game we really see what he can do, I cant count Nebraska or Eastern Washington. Walter was all-freshman PAC 10 last year, but thats b/c there were no freshman QB's to play in the PAC 10 last year other than him :D . He was very highly recruited, I think he was the 16th best prep QB in the country. Walter is every bit of 6-5, and he is pretty big. He has got a cannon for an arm. His accuracy is in question, and I kind of cringe every time he comes in. But he has the most talent out of the QB's, I think.
RB's are the best thing about the Offense. Hakim Hill was heavily recruited by Nebraska and is probably the most talented RB ASU has EVER had, Cornell Candidate is Trungs brother, and he is a player as well. And Mike Williams, the starter, knows the system and can pick up blocks, something Hill struggles at. Its like a "Mini Colorado" Very Solid.
The WR's are lead by Shaun McDonald, who had the second best year at WR in ASU history. He catches everything, albeit small (5-10), but can leap out of the stadium. Taplin was the #15 rated WR out of high school, and has yet to live up to his billing. Darryl Lightfoot left the team today for a few weeks for personal reasons today. Not that big of loss. The TE is lead by Mike Pinkard, who has all the tools of an NFL tight end. Big 6-5 264, strong and has good hands. All in all a good receiving core.
The O-Line has issues, but has played well thusfar. They played really well in the 1st half against the Black Shirts, but the 2nd half kind of fell apart. They have 4 new starters, and the other starter, Regis Crawford moved to LT.
The Defense is the strong point of the team, IMO. The D-Line is headed by future 1st rounder Terrell Suggs, who is frightingly similar to Jevon Kearse. He is a monster. The rest of the line is a little above avg.
The linebackers are one of the best in the PAC 10, headed but Solomon Bates. Mason Unck and JUCO stud Ishmael Thrower are very good as well, but only 2 play at a time, b/c of ASU's 4-2-5 scheme. The DB's are headed by another 1st round draft pick IMO, Jason Shivers. I mean, this kid is all over the field. He is only a Soph, like most of the other DB's. I think they are pretty good.
The kicking game cost us a close game at Nebraska, the score would been a lot closer had it not been for
2 blocked punts deep in our own territory. The punter is actually very good, but there was a blown coverage both times that caused the blocks. The kicker, Mike Barth, is one of the best in the country.

UCF is solid, but the score to the Penn St. game was very missleading. They really lost by about 14. Plus, Zach Mills played poorly. Sun Devil stadium will be rocking tomorrow, and that will be huge and in addition the weather should be around 100 at game time. These Sun Devils played Nebraska tough at Nebraska, and I look for them to pull this game out, albeit against a good team.

nice write-up..as an alumni of asu ...I follow the doings of this team on a minute-by-minute basis as well. Time will tell if Christansen will be great..I for one believe Walter would be the qb if he were more mobilee..but since it is a young OL...CC has to start
