Pick.... Leaning toward CT -11. Vandy does not compare to CT in terms of speed, talent or athleticism but Calhoun may use his lead to......test a few rotations late in this one. Vandy is a smart team, they will pass well and often to free up the 3....They hit 10 of 30 vs Liberty and assisted on about 25 hoops. Calhoun knows this and is emphasizing the perimeter D in practice. Vandy has some good newcomers but lost heavily in the frontcourt....they were outrebounded by Liberty...and will lose that war big to CT.
Uconn is loaded! Chad Wise 6'5" G/F averaged 20.5 and was qb for his hs football team...he likes to hit the floor for the loose ball and Calhoun LIKES him...you'll see him tonight...Scott Hazleton 6'8" McDonald's All American 1999-00 29ppg in his senior and 30ppg his junior year in hs. He'll play tonight.....Mike Hayes...word(from team) has it that this 6'8"..235 power forward is "ballin" youll see him tonight. Prized recruit Ben Gordon..6'2"g ...24ppg, 5.4 assists and 3 steals will definitely play tonight,,and so may teams best long range threat Robert Swain.....THATS THE BENCH!
Naismith candidate, wooden pre season All American...Caron Butler 6'7" 15.3ppg 7.2reb 3.1assists and 2.2 steals per game will lead a strong and experienced cast of players this year and they wanna show...about not being ranked!! Tony Robertson 6'2" is a slasher, can shoot, has played the point for El Amin and is worthy of the start...Gordon WILL push him....Johnnie Selvie 10.9ppg 5.5 reb..in 24min IS much improved and should be far more consistant..Hes a Flintstone in the tradition! Emeka Okafor ..6'9" 245..will start at Center ...Justin Brown 7foot center has Mono and will not play....may not have anyway. Okafor averaged 24ppg and 16 reb last year...hes a player...accumulated fouls in pre season but Calhoun likes him. Now the Point....Taliek (just foul him) Brown had a great summer in Housten and is ready for this. He actually started the improve in mid season last year and was shooting 70% toward the end of the season 2+assist to turnover ratio.. 8+ppg and 5 assists and a gritty point in the Big Apple mold.
Still leanin cause thats a lotta wood vs this type of team. Would not go against CT here.
bear.................Any thoughts
