Unfamiliar Faces In High Places

By SPORTSBETTING.COM

While much of the talk to this point of the college football season has been about all the top seeds that have failed to maintain their respective positions, little has been made of the fresh faces and amongst the Top 25 in the polls.

Of course many of the usual suspects are still there, including current consensus No. 1 Ohio State, but if you take a look up and down the polls you might be surprised.

Boston College is usually in the ACC mix but not in contention for the BCS title and that?s exactly where they find themselves, currently ranked No. 2 (see below).

When you think of the Pac-10 elite, USC, Cal and Oregon come to mind but if you take a look at the standings it?s Arizona State that is King of the Hill, currently ranked 4 and 6 in the BCS and AP polls.

But the most surprising of teams could be the University of Kansas in the No. 8 spot.

During Tom Osborne?s coaching career at Nebraska, the Cornhuskers would regularly steamroll the opposition and Kansas was a victim on many occasions. But interim Athletic Director post aside, Osborne hasn?t been with the team in a while and the ?Huskers have slowly eroded. Going into this week, Kansas will play host to Nebraska and unlike days past it is the Jayhawks that are the favorite.

SPORTSBETTING.COM has Kansas listed as an 18?-point favorite and who would?ve thought that?

The betting public clearly aren?t used to seeing the ?Huskers as this big a dog in their conference, not against a perennially weak Jayhawk team. Nebraska is attracting almost 75% of the betting action getting almost 20 points.

Rutgers at Connecticut
When you think about the University of Connecticut you think of competitive teams, good recruits and winning . . . if you?re talking about basketball.

The UConn football team is normally neither seen nor heard from, but this isn?t a normal season and the Huskies currently see themselves ranked No. 16 in the AP and 13 in the BCS polls.

UConn hosts former ranked team Rutgers this week and the oddsmakers have the Huskies listed at -3.

Despite being the small home chalk, the betting public has been leaning towards the visiting team as the Rutgers Scarlet Knights are getting 55% of the action with the other 45 going to the home Huskies.

Florida State at Boston College
An opportunistic team or a true contender? Whatever your opinion of Boston College, the Eagles are the No. 2 in both the AP and BCS and if they stay the course they will be playing for the BCS championship in January.

The next hill in BC?s road to the BCS title is Florida State and although the Seminoles aren?t ranked, they are more than capable of pulling off the upset.

The Eagles are favored by a TD and the bettors at SPORTSBETTING.COM seem confident that BC is a legit No. 2 team as they are wagering on the current ACC giant with 85% of the action going Boston College?s way.

Dog Bites

Who are some of the dogs attracting attention on this week?s NCAA card? Let?s have a look.

- The first action of the week sees No. 11 Virginia Tech traveling to Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta to take on Georgia Tech on Thursday night. If the Hokies want to make a charge and challenge for one of the BCS bowls it will be tough as they face a slew of ACC teams including Miami, FSU and Virginia.

Despite being ranked #11 in the nation, VT is a 2?-point ?dog in this matchup, but bettors like this dog, as they are backing the visitor at an 80% clip.

- Untimely losses have knocked the South Carolina Gamecocks from the upper part of the polls to the lower part. Currently ranked No. 23 in the AP, Steve Spurrier and his team will travel to Razorback Stadium this week to play Arkansas.

SPORTSBETTING.COM players like the Gamecocks, listed as 4?-point ?dogs, as they are receiving 75% of the volume wagered on this one.

- Everyone in Oregon is probably talking about the Oregon Ducks and their win over USC at -3 last week. Many saw it as a sign that USC was officially on the decline and that Oregon has served notice to the college football world.

This week the Trojans are playing the other team from Oregon, the Oregon State Beavers. USC is listed as a heavy 15-point favorite, but early action is betting that the Trojans will go 0-2 against the state of Oregon, as the Beavers are seeing 65% of the action.

Good luck this week.
