Men of Action,

I appreciate the exchange of views here and usually refrain from posting unless I have some pretty strong reasons for doing so. While it is not the end of the world, I think that there needs to be some establishment (which if already in place, I am unaware of) of what exactly a UNIT is. While it is obviously the average bet that one person makes, the better way to describe these mythical and sought after units would be to discuss them in reference to the portion of the bankroll they represent.

I have seen suggestions from 1 to 15 units on this board, and think that as a group we would benefit from an established understanding of what a unit is so that it becomes more apparent how strong any given 'cappers feelings are about a particular game.

Proposed: A unit is usually 5% - 10% of a long-term players roll, if possible state which one you are using and how many "units" are suggested under the system of your choice.

That being said, Texas Tech for 2 units on the 5% system. While Clemson has a statistically strong pass defense, they see nothing close to the aerial circus that Tech runs, and the highly cerebral Kingsbury should be able to pick them apart. Better conference by far for Tech and they should roll and win between 2 and 3 scores...Over/Under 66 is too tough to call.

So far 3-1 on the 4 available bets this bowl season (W-N Tex., W-N. Tex Under, W-Marshall; L-Marshall Over)

Good Luck and Happy Bowling!

Sorry

Sorry

Uhhhh........hate to break it to you, but if you propose 5-10% per unit there will be no long-term........your bankroll will deplete too quickly. Especially if you are throwing 2-3 unit plays out there regularly. At that proposed %/unit, 1/3 and 1/2 units would have to be the more regular plays. I think that most professional sports bettors that are truly in it for the long haul would NEVER risk more than 7-10%, even on the strongest of plays. And their normal plays will range from 2-4%.

On another note, I think TTU is strong offensively, as well. I am just concerned with the following: 1) the Clemson faithful outnumbering them by far in Florida, 2) their pathetic D, 3) the fact that they are a totally different team outside of the friendly confines of Lubbock, and 4) Leach's 0-fer record in bowl games. Throw in the fact that the Red Raiders seem to be a pretty popular side here, and it all adds up to a very unattractive 4 1/2 point favorite to me. But what do I know?

Good luck to you.

Thanks for the clarification, and for your input on the game this afternoon. I recognize those are legit concerns, but still think that Tech will be too much, and that if anything, Leach's bowl record will motivate him and the Raiders to run away with it if possible. But, what do I know?

Thanks again...

A unit is what ever you would bet normally on a game. To bet five or ten times your normal bet on any game is ludicrous. One should bet the same amount on each game if they intend to gamble for any length of time. Think of how many times that game you were so sure was going to win and then lost. Five units lost would mean you have to win six single bets to get even. Fat chance that happens. Make equal bets on games and you will be around for years to come. Chase your money and your doomed. Hope you ask people you know and respect for advice. I think you will be told the same as I. Good luck to you on whatever you decide. Merry Xmas.
