This is an excerpt from a Pgh Post Gazette article by Phil Axelrod, Staff Writer.

"Knight said he felt a lot better after he had a 30-minute MRI yesterday than he did before the examination. He was told his injury was nothing more than a sprain.

"I was very scared all last night and waiting all day to take the MRI," said Knight, a 6-foot junior who is co-player of the year in the Big East Conference. "It's not something you ever want to go through as an athlete. Once I got out of the machine, they told me everything was fine."

Knight walked gingerly yesterday with a noticeable limp.

Could he play today?

"No," he said, shaking his head. "There's not a lot of swelling, but there's still a substantial amount of pain. When they told me that everything was intact [in the knee], I let out a big sigh of relief."

Howland, though, seemed to be much more upbeat about Knight's future than Knight.

"Everything's great with Brandin," he said. "I wasn't that worried about it, but you never know until you see the result. He's fine."

Pitt will practice tomorrow after being off yesterday and today following a thrilling 74-65 double overtime loss to Connecticut in the championship game of the Big East tournament Saturday night at Madison Square Garden. Knight was injured in the waning moments of regulation when his knee buckled while he was trying to come to a jump stop. He made a 1.7-second cameo in regulation and didn't play in the overtime periods.

"I thought something was wrong," Knight said. "I thought something was torn by the amount of pain."

Knight plans to have a light practice Wednesday and hopefully participate in full drills the rest of the week. When a reporter wanted to know if he expected to be ready to play by Friday, Knight answered in a whisper, "I hope so."

"This is something I'll deal with. You can't think about it while you're playing. You can't worry about it. You block it out of your mind. I'm going to do all the rehab I can to make sure I can play."
