Online Sportsbook Launches Odds On Championship Game Winner & Participants

WILLEMSTAD, CURACAO (November 15, 2006)?The latest round of upsets in college football did nothing but make the immensely confusing BCS race even more complicated. With ?Judgment Day,? the highly anticipated Michigan-Ohio State showdown on tap this weekend, a number of teams still remain in contention for the second spot opposite the winner of ?The Game? in the January 8th BCS National Championship Game. Today leading online sportsbook, PinnacleSports.com handicapped the tight BCS race by calculating odds on the leading contenders winning the national title as well as on which teams will play in the BCS Championship Game.

The largest sports betting site on the Internet, PinnacleSports.com lists the top-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes as 11/10 favorites to win their eighth national championship and are overwhelming 1/4 favorites to play in January?s BCS Championship Game. Second-ranked Michigan stands at 7/2 to capture the college football title and 2/1 to play in the championship game, an almost certainty if they survive Saturday?s showdown in Columbus. Despite being the most likely team to ascend to the second spot in the BCS rankings after Saturday?s game, PinnacleSports.com lists the USC Trojans at 5/2 to play in their third consecutive national championship game and 6/1 to win their second title in three years.

Although one-loss Florida has already clinched a spot in the SEC Championship Game, the Gators are 10/1 long shots to capture the BCS title and 5/1 to play in their first BCS Championship Game. With a win over Mississippi State this weekend, Arkansas (16/1 to win BCS championship) will wrap up the SEC West guaranteeing a spot opposite Florida in the SEC?s title game. If the Razorbacks can win-out and get some help from teams ahead of them in the rankings, they represent excellent value to play for the national title at 9/1. With a trip to USC still on their schedule, Notre Dame is a 20/1 long shot to win the national championship and have the second worst odds to play in the title game at 17/2. Despite being one of four undefeated teams in Division I-A, PinnacleSports.com doesn?t like the chances of sixth-ranked Rutgers, listing the Scarlet Knights at 23/1 to win their first college football title and 8/1 to reach the BCS Championship Game.

?We?re heading into the home stretch of college football?s regular season and the BCS picture is as murky as ever with seven teams still in contention for the national championship,? said Simon Noble of PinnacleSports.com. ?While the winner of this weekend?s Michigan-Ohio State game is guaranteed a spot in the BCS Championship Game, their opponent remains a mystery at the mercy of the always controversial BCS ratings system. With all of the contenders facing difficult games to close out the season, there?s a very real possibility that the January 8th game could be an Ohio State-Michigan rematch, which would certainly create further BCS controversy and have both the media and the public demanding a playoff system.?
