The FBI data, which compares crime rates in the third quarter of 2023 to the same period last year, found that violent crime dropped 8%, while property crime fell 6.3% to what would be its lowest level since 1961, according to criminologist Jeff Asher, who analyzed the FBI numbers.

Murder plummeted in the United States in 2023 at one of the fastest rates of decline ever recorded, Asher found, and every category of major crime except auto theft declined.

Yet 92% of Republicans, 78% of independents and 58% of Democrats believe crime is rising, the Gallup survey shows.

“I think we’ve been conditioned, and we have no way of countering the idea” that crime is rising,” Asher said. “It’s just an overwhelming number of news media stories and viral videos — I have to believe that social media is playing a role.”

Where I live, it seems pretty much the same. Plus, I really don't give a shit about drug deaths. You're willing to play with fire by doing drugs.

I'll tell you the same thing I tell the rest of the doom and gloomers here. I don't do anything less today, than I was doing years ago. Things simply aren't the horror show that you're led to believe.

I feel some what the same about drugs if you play you pay but i do have simpathy for familys that drug deaths have ruined and if its not gotten worse where you live im happy for you you are a lucky man as far as doom and gloom well im more sad than anything because my grand kids and yours if you have any will not see the simpler and happy life as we had growing up

Are you advocating for more government intervention? If you want bigger government to solve all your problems, the Republicans are not interested in helping you.

UH NO im not advocating for more Gov where did you get that idea
You seem to think the small time crime outside your door is the fault of Joe Biden. If your community can't police itself and you are blaming Joe Biden for the situation, it sure sounds like you are asking for federal intervention.

How are the jails and prisons filled beyond capacity, if the courts don't lock anyone up?

Local jails are a revolving door some one caught stealing is usually bonded out with in hours and go do it again in two or three days unless it involves violence some are even released on or sign a paper and promise to show up when they have stolen enough times after 2 or 3 times on probation then they may get locked up and do a little time

Again. They are full beyond capacity. These same criminals have been getting released for decades. When you guys decided to spend the billions it will take to house these fine citizens, and find the thousands of workers to babysit them, I guess the problem will be solved.

Well i think we should have road work crews and litter pick up by inmates and as far as my guys decide to spend billions to house and babysit them i believe you guys are in charge so the ball is in your court but i dont think the country can afford it we have got to send billions over seas to countries that hate us
