Can the USA Men's National Soccer team top their 2002 World Cup quarterfinal showing?

Experience, speed and talent could make this one of the best U.S. National World Cup rosters since... well, since the 2002 World Cup when the United States advanced to the quarterfinals (and then lost to Germany in a very close 1-0 match). Drawn into a tough Group E, however, USA opens the 2006 FIFA World Cup tournament on June 12 in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. Here's what their Match Schedule looks like for the first stage of the tournament (the final will be played on July 9):

U.S. Men vs. Czech Republic: June 12, 2003 (11:55 AM ET)
FIFA World Cup Stadium

U.S. Men vs. Italy: June 17, 2006 (2:30 PM ET)
Fritz-Walter-Stadion

U.S. Men vs. Ghana: June 22, 2006 (9:55 AM ET)
Frankenstadion

Odds to win the 2006 World Cup in Germany

Brazil 11/5

Argentina 9/1

Germany 7/1

England 15/2

Netherlands 14/1

Italy 10/1

France 14/1

USA 40/1

In 2002, the U.S. national team made a splash on soccer's biggest stage, defeating Portugal, South Korea and Mexico before bowing out to eventual finalists Germany in the World Cup quarterfinals. In 2006, they'll be looking to go even further.
