What did you think of him? Was he bothered by the strange style of Fitz? Does he still suffer from his last two poundings? Did you think he looked good? Can he beat a top contender? Personally, I was not impressed with him, but it was so hard to figure out if he was hurting Fitz or if Fitz just wobbled on his own. Didn't look like he had alot of power. Other opinions please.

Vargas is only 25 years old. Most great
fighters have been through a few battles
win or lose. Remember, he came back
and floored Trinidad in the late rounds
after taking a pretty good whoopin.
Sure he ended up getting ko'd but that
fight gave him very valuable experience.
As did the De La hoya fight.

He now has Buddy McGirt in his corner
so I expect nothing but great things from
him in the future.

No question that McQirt is the best thing that happened to him. In fact, you could even see some changes in his approach that were dictated by McGirt. That may also have contributed to what many perceived to be a lack luster showing. Obviously, we won't know much until he steps in the ring next time. Great point about his age.

He will be back and better then he was, that was along lay off and it will take time to change style to boxer puncher then just being pure puncher. And last fight was just a hard guy to fight the style would be hard for most fighters to figure out till later rounds. He is young and has seemed to grow up with the lay off i see him being a force for along time, it will take 3-4 more fights and they won't wait long between but also will not rush him into big fight. They have a great game plan and if he follows and learns he will be at the top in about 1.5 years.

"the bunker"
i`m not sold on vargas...

i`m not sold on vargas...

my guess is that he will be handled very carefully for a good while to come.....

he`s always been what i call a "stupid" fighter....who seems to have trouble adjusting his game if he needs to against top competition........although,i admit, vargas has some wins early in his career vs top guys....he is very talented...

but the old air of invincibility has been demolished by 2 crushing defeats.....sometimes,they never come back.....

he`s the second guy with this problem to switch to mcgirt...the other obviously being gatti....

these guys have had success because they had extensive amateur experience and are just plain more talented than all but the top guys....

but when they step up against the best, they fall short....

gatti has fought ward 3 times and a shot terron millett under mcgirt.....the jury is still out on whether gatti can keep from reverting back to "face fighter" when he steps up against the tszyu`s,the cotto`s,the mitchell`s........i expect the same type of road to be laid out for vargas......

not saying it`s impossible to get back to the top.....i just don`t think you`ll see fernando in with the de la hoya`s,the mosely`s or even the winky wrights(a guy that vargas already lost to but was given a gift decision)......the hopkins` or the lacy`s or jermaine taylor`s....

i would expect vargas to look for someone he`s naturally bigger than and is more talented than......

they are talking javier casteliejo......

i wouldn`t be surprised to see ricardo mayorga in fernando`s future....there`s a guy that, imo.would be perfect for fernando to handle.....
