Vegas Cab fares

Been using cabs in vegas for about 36 years. Never gave it a second thought.
This last weekend, I thought I would stay at the Nugget in the newer tower. Was 38 dollars and change plus tip to get there from the airport. I paid 45 dollars total. While I was there, I noticed that the RTC bus that stops right there at Fremont next to the Fremont Hotel costs 6 dollars to the airport (no tip, etc.). It is an express, so it only makes a couple stops before getting to the airport (one right in front of the Tropicana). The bus drops you off where some of the limos are parked on the lower level. It is an easy escalator ride up to the level where security is. There are boarding pass machines there where you can easily print out a boarding pass for the trip.
This would be a little more trouble if you have to check in luggage.
Anyway, hopefully, this info. might save someone a few bucks.

I rode that bus in February when I went downtown. I bought the tickets for it at the bus stop and got on. The thing was, I was never asked for a ticket or did anything with the tickets. It was a free ride when I already paid.

I also rode the monorail some. I rode it to the last stop, and it was like a spooky ghost town where I thought I might get murdered (Sahara I think?) :scared

I went to Vegas for March Madness and it was identical. Going to the D, my cab fare was $38 and I gave the man 45. Paid $30 going back to McCarran and it felt like I got a deal

Never again.

I was back in Vegas in August. Rented a car and paid $109 for a new Malibu for three full days. Got me around town a few times, even checked out Red Rock Canyon for the first time and didn't even use half a tank. I'll never not rent a car again.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Other MC, I thought about the car rental. Glad it worked out for you. Would like to check out the M resort, Southpoint, etc. without handing over my wallet in the process. May do that next time. Would probably take out the extra insurance. Vegas always seems to have more than their share of accidents.

I really did my homework before renting the car and found some good information about the insurance. First, I called my insurance company, and while they wouldn't tell me my policy would absolutely cover a rental, they said I could have the rental car company call them and make sure my coverage was adequate for the specific car I was renting. So essentially, I was told I was covered (as long as I'm not renting a Ferrari).

Also, some credit card companies offer certain insurance on rental cars. For example, I found I had a level of coverage just because I used my Visa card in the transaction.

Here's a good website that defines the four main options of insurance the rental car company will try and sell you. It can help you stay away from paying extra for coverage you already have.
