yep, 1st day could have been better, could have been worse..so not bad! today's another day!
I can give the mind-numbing nerd details...In standard Italian pronunciation, the digraph zz stands for the affricate /ts/
for pizza you say peets-uh
for palazzo, it's pronounced pə-ˈl?t-(ˌ)sō
but, yes, there are regional differences...older speakers in Genoa and Lombardy, for example, will say pees-suh....and all this has nothing to do with how an Italian loan word might be pronounced "properly" in American English.
