I’m super confused about how the United States has sent Venezuela gang members here illegally to be imprisoned in El Salvador.

In my opinion, we should be deporting illegal immigrants to their home country, but I could also see an argument where we could deport them to the country from which they illegally entered the US. What I don’t understand is deporting Venezuelans with clean record while in the USA to an El Salvadoran in prison

Holman himself indicated very clearly that many of these folks don’t have criminal records in the United States. If that’s the case, they should be in Venezuela today and not a third-party prison systemv.

This needs to be rectified. in the United States, we don’t in imprison people without due process. Shipping them to a foreign prison without a trial is UnAmerican authoritarian behavior. W did this in Guantanamo after 9/11. W turned out to be a horrible president who started a fake war

there's nothing to be confused about. venezuela was refusing flights with these people because of the way the americans were treating them. they were only guilty of fleeing a shitty situation and looking for a better life in the US. as you said, they weren't even ACCUSED of a crime (other than crossing the border), but they were being shackled for their flights. they were treated as sub-human.

so the trump administration said "we don't want 'em, and their country won't take 'em unless we, you know, treat them like human beings (and THAT ain't happening), so we gotta ship 'em somewhere." so they worked out a deal with el salvador, which is known for their horrific prisons. i don't remember how many millions we paid el salvador, but it was stupid. all they had to do was treat them like human beings, and they would have been returned to venezuela.

oh, and just to be clear... there is pretty much zero evidence that any of them are even in a gang. that was just what the administration said to justify treating them like that.
