- - I'm underwhelmed to begin with as far as angles or insights regarding the field or the event, and "a Faldo design" being about all I have to go with as of Tuesday regarding the playing characteristics of the venue doesn't contribute much in terms of visual imaging, and obviously contributes nothing in terms of player histories during prior stagings. Under the circumstances, I would generally include a few wagers at long odds if anything had pulled me in that direction, but that wasn't the case, either. So . . . Lara has been on my short list for weekly consideration since before the season began, and nothing about this venue or his season to date bumps him off this week's list . . . Quoting from my post before Jacquelin withdrew in Algarve/Portugal: "When I last caught up with Jacquelin, the story begins with my catching glimpses of his play during the 2nd (next to last) round in Malaysia, and me saying to myself more than once, "He's swinging beautifully and knows it"; I was then caught up in something or other before the final round, and I never looked at the lines and matchups for the next day; that next day I only caught glimpses of the telecast (if it was delayed, I don't think I knew the outcome), and there's Jacquelin playing a handful of shots - all flawless, as I recall - during the course of a closing 62. Since then, I guess he's gone on and lost out on a playoff for the Hassan Trophy II in Morocco(.) Jacquelin has been in similar zones before that had some legs, and I'll let him carry the banner for France on the heels of Van De Velde's triumph." . . . Marksaeng has shown significant maturation this season over the last few seasons in terms of the quality of his play on a bigger stage, and even more evident is how badly he wants to win NOW while the opportunity of a lifetime presents itself in a co-sanctioned event . . . . Van De Velde has spent a lot of time in the Far East with the mother (a Euro transplant??) of his newborn, and his putting prowess and life routine should be close to primed for events such as this . . .
