Volvo PGA Championship (1pt):

Darren Clarke to win 14/1 e.w. @ SkyBet, BetInternet, Victor Chandler and Eurobet
Twice a runner-up in this event and in the top-15 in each of the last five years, Clarke looks to have a strong chance of finally winning this title. He lost a lost of weight over the winter and the resulting swing changes led to some inconsistent early season form. But back in Europe, where he is at his best, he has finished in the top-5 in his last two events and should at the very least match those performances.

Michael Campbell to win 40/1 e.w. @ William Hill, Ladbrokes and Tote
Campbell was a selection in the first of those two events, the British Masters, and it looked promising before the weekend. He finally settled for a top-20 finish, as was the case in Germany last week, but should go better this week. He also has a runners-up spot to his name in this event (1995), plus he has finished in the top-5 in two of the last three years. These odds look rather large for someone with that track record.

Anders Hansen to win 40/1 e.w. @ Victor Chandler
But whereas Clarke and Campbell have three 2nd-place finishes in this event, Hansen can boast being the winner in 2002 when he won in style, by a margin of five strokes. Clarke and Campbell were also in the top-10 on that occasion. In 16 rounds on the West course, Hansen has been over-par only twice so the win was no fluke. He is also in excellent form with top-15 finishes in seven of nine starts this season and has been particularly impressive since the Tour came to Europe. He was an 80/1 winner two years, but this price simply reflects how much competitive he has become this season.

Matchup plays (1pt unless stated):

Angel Cabrera to beat Jaochim Haeggman -111 @ Centrebet
Opposing Haeggman simply because he does not play well in England. In his last 10 starts in this country, he has missed five cuts and has a best finish of 32nd. In Cabrera's last 10 starts in this country, he has won once and finished 2nd three times. With both players in comparable form - either very high or very low on the leaderboard each week - Cabrera looks the one who will be best suited to this course.

Darren Clarke to beat Trevor Immelman -120 @ Intertops
Immelman has finished ahead of Clarke only once in six common events this year and that was last week when he won the Deutsche Bank - SAP Open and Clarke finished 3rd. With his course form, Clarke is likely to repeat the feat, while it is standard policy to oppose the winner of the previous week's event.
(available widely)

Nick O'Hern to beat Nick Faldo -111 @ SIA
A question of current form or course form. Over the past year, O'Hern has finished ahead of Faldo in seven of eight common European events, including two events this month, whereas Faldo has an excellent record on this course. Just feel that it is becoming more of a struggle for Faldo and a top-30 finish is as much as he can hope for at the moment.

Retief Goosen to beat Miguel Angel Jimenez -125 @ Intertops [2pts]
Having missed the last three cuts in this event, I was not expecting to be backing Goosen this week, but will certainly do so again Jimenez. He has played in this event six times and has finished ahead of the Spaniard on every occasion. I've argued before that Jimenez is opposable on English soil and with Goosen showing some signs of better form with a top-10 finish in Germany lats week, I'll oppose Jimenez again.
(also available at NordicBet, William Hill and Easybets)

Retief Goosen to beat Adam Scott -112 @ Pinnacle [2pts]
Scott's course form is not that impressive either. Admittedly it is better than Goosen's in the last three years, but given that he is coming off three missed cuts when three of his six rounds have been 79, 80 and 80, it doesn't look promising for Scott this week. Goosen should make the top-25 at least, which will be more than enough.

Outrights - Final update: 2-1; +2.17pts

Clarke 4th
Campbell mc
Hansen 4th

Clarke and Hansen shared a three-way tie for 4th place to ensure a profit on the outrights. It was a good comeback from Hansen after his 3rd round had taken him out of contention, while Clarke looked throughout as though he could win the title, but consistently failed to master the last hole.

Matchups - Final update: 2-2-1; -1.61pts

Cabrera/Haeggman WON by 1
Clarke/Immelman WON by 12
O'Hern/Faldo LOST by 10
Goosen/Jimenez LOST by 1
Goosen/Scott TIED (Push)

Encouraging matchups with Cabrera, Clarke and Goosen all finishing in the top-11, but denied a profit by Goosen three-putting the last hole. That was annoying!
