WKU quarterback Kawaun Jakes to wear knee brace Thursday night against Troy

Western Kentucky University football coach Willie Taggart said quarterback Kawaun Jakes will wear a left knee brace for the game Thursday night at Troy.Jakes was hurt in WKU?s 26-13 victory at Arkansas State on Sept. 29 and did not play in the second half. The results from an MRI last week were negative but Jakes has been fitted with a brace. The Hilltoppers had a bye last week, so they practiced on a limited basis and Jakes was limited to mostly individual drills.
?He practiced well the other day,? Taggart said. ?It didn?t seem to affect him. He looked a little different because he had a brace on. But he scrambled well, threw the ball well. It was practice as usual for us.?
Believe it or not, WKU (4-1, 1-0) is off to the third-best start by a team from the Sun Belt since the league started playing football in 2001. Last year, Louisiana-Lafayette won six of its first seven games and in 2001, Middle Tennessee began 5-0. The Hilltoppers are in this position because redshirt freshman James Mauro (8 for 12 for 104 yards and 2 touchdown passes) came off the bench to rally the team from a 13-0 halftime deficit.
Taggart said Jakes remains the starter but added that he likes his team?s depth at quarterback. Jakes ranks 20th in the nation in passing efficiency with a rating of 157.05. WKU quarterbacks (Jakes, Mauro and Brandon Doughty) have combined to throw 10 TD passes to 4 interceptions.
?I said earlier in the year that I felt like we had three quarterbacks that we could win with and could run our offense,? the coach said. ?We didn?t hold anything back. We don?t operate that way. We tell the next guy in line that you?ve always got to be ready.?
Troy (3-2, 2-1) is also coming off a bye, having last played Sept 29 in a 31-10 victory at South Alabama. The Trojans have owned this series, winning 8 of the 9 meetings. WKU finally broke through last year with a 41-18 rout in the season finale.
Troy coach Larry Blakeney called WKU the best team in the Sun Belt.
?Willie Taggart has done a great job coaching and recruiting,? he said. ?You have to give him, his staff and the Western Kentucky people credit. We?ll have to play our best game to have a chance to win.?

whats that mean... steam?

"steam" refers to a sudden influx of money all coming in on the same side or total causing the line to move rapidly.

On average, steam games do not win much more, if at all, than much over 51%., depending on the group.

New Orleans
WKy may be packing a little chip on its shoulder, although it may not make any difference. If I'm not mistaken they were bowl eligible last year but weren't invited to play. FIU was and WKy had beat them during the regular season...fwiw.

Thinking Toppers advantage on rushing O/D should overcome Troy's advantage in passing offense. Really don't think there will be that much of a home field advantage either with it being carried nation-wide on a Thursday. WKy will come to play and Taggart is evidently a top coach; if I'm not mistaken he was Harbaugh's RB coach at Standord, pretty good to have on your resume I would think.
