Just taking a quick peak at the field.. wow :scared I think everyone in the top 25 is in. Looking at http://www.golfobserver.com/golfstats.php?c=306
it seems like all of the top players fair well here. I think I might try to attack this from a different angle, seeing who went to college at unc and nc state. I also am looking to fade Zack johnson. He bit me on the butt last time i faded him at the heritage, i just feel like he went on a long vacation and might be a little rusty. Oh well.. Anyone goin to this tourney? Im either gonna go here to quaill hollow or sawgrass next week. Gonna be really interesting to see how motivated tiger comes out after bein a lil shaky at the masters.

Tiger, Jordan team up for Wachovia pro-amAssociated Press

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan have played plenty of golf together, but not in an organized event. That will change Wednesday when they partner in the Wachovia Championship pro-am.

Woods will be playing for the first time since he tied for second at the Masters.

Jordan has played the pro-am at the Bay Hill Invitational, but not in the same group with Woods.

"These two gentlemen are two of the most well-known athletes in the world, and to have them both here for one day playing in the same group is a special treat," tournament director Kym Hougham said.

Woods and Jordan are to tee off at 7:30 a.m. from the first tee at Quail Hollow. Filling out the threesome will be Skipper Beck, president and CEO of Beck Imports of the Carolinas, who supplies the tournament with courtesy Mercedes-Benz cars.

Just imagine if you were the third guy in that group :scared I bet Tiger took MJ for a few units

Just watched a couple preview shows.. Seems like distance is a non factor here. The course is prob the toughest non major out there. Rough is really high.. Its gonna play like a US Open..

Few guys i like..
  • Geoff Ogilvy
  • Goosen... shot 77 in the last round but had a 9 on the last hole
  • Luke Donald

Guys I dont like..
  • Appelby
  • Chopra.. awful off the tee
  • Zack Johnson

These 2 plays will be my biggest plays of the week..and the only ones i will give a writeup too..

Shaun Micheel (-150) over JB Holmes

Shuan has a nice track record here.. including battling for the title last year. His last 3 times at Quail are 12 56 and 44. JB has only played out here once and shot 84 in rd one and withdrew. Shaun his last 7 tourneys had 6 made cuts and 6 top 20s including back to back ones. He is 44 in DA and 22 in GIR (17th overall in ball striking). Holmes last 4 tourneys he has 2 missed cuts a 77 and a 36. Hes also 127 in DA and really bad in GIRs as well.. Got a few other reasons but thats enough typing.

Jeff Maggert (-115) Over Darren Clarke

Saw this line and had to jump on it. Freakin love it. No idea where to start here. Jeff has a 5th place finish here and the time he wd'd he shot 69 in the first round. Clarke this year has a last place and 2 cuts on 3 pga events. And he is coming off a missed cut or t82 in a european event. Maggert in his last 3 events has 2 top 15s and a made cut. I think he is starting to get healthy

Ted Purdy -104 over Corey Pavin at 5 dimes 0*

Outright plays (total stake per play: 1pt)

Vijay Singh to win 18/1 e.w. @ Paddy Power [6 places]
A course that is running hard and fast with the feel of a U.S. Open and with four reachable-in-two par-5s and two driveable par-4s ... it should point to players with a good record in majors and are long off the tee. That's the justification for these picks. On top of that, Singh is a former winner here (2005) with top-10 finishes in three of four years and has been very consistent this year with two wins on Tour already this season. As I would have expected no more than 16/1, he represents value particularly with the extra place on offer.

Retief Goosen to win 28/1 e.w. @ Victor Chandler and Bet365
Goosen fits the bill just as well. He is a two-time U.S. Open winner (2001, 2004) and was in particularly good form last time in the States when he finished 2nd in the Masters. Add in a top-10 finish last year on this course - he had been 2nd after a 3rd round 65 - and the setup looks ideal for him.

Adam Scott to win 30/1 e.w. @ BetInternet
Scott is the exception to the rule in this group: his record in U.S. Opens is not good, though he did make his first cut in 2005 to finish 28th and improved to 21st last year so he is certainly improving as a 'Majors' player. More encouraging, though, is the fact that he won on Tour only a month ago (Houston Open) and finished 3rd here last year, so at the level of normal PGA Tour events, he is one of the better converter of chances and he is playing well enough to give himself another chance for victory this week.

Geoff Ogilvy to win 40/1 e.w. @ Victor Chandler and Coral
And then there's the current U.S. Open champion. He hasn't won on Tour this year, but two top-3 finishes in his last five starts and an excellent Masters (apart from a run of seven dropped shots over the last four holes of the 3rd round) suggest that is capable of winning soon. If the course conditions are as expected, this could be such a week.

Cheers abc :)

Further outright play (total stake: 1pt)

Vaughn Taylor to be 1st round leader 80/1 e.w. @ Bet365
With finishes of 5th and 6th in the last two years, plus three top-10 finishes in his last four starts, Taylor had been considered for the tournament outrights, but 50/1 was far too short against such a strong field. He does, however, stand a better chance of beating them over 18 holes and he did hold the lead after the 1st round as recently as the Arnold Palmer Invitational against a strong field. The place terms with Bet365 (1/4 1-2-3-4) may be very poor, but, for this player at least, the odds more than make up for them.

The prestigious Players Championship is just a week away, which has brought the world's best out in droves to tune up at the Wachovia Championship. As if a field that includes all but one of the world's 20 best players needed any more intrigue for the fantasy hacker, the crew at Quail Hollow has the track set up like it's a major, with dry conditions creating extremely slick putting surfaces that should challenge the boatload of talent that has shown up in Charlotte this week. With so much firepower in attendance, fantasy owners have to be very diligent in setting their lineups this week. Our preview gets you started on the right track.

The Favorites
We'll just dispense with the pleasantries and assume you know that Tiger Woods is the favorite, as usual, this week. He'll be given a serious run by a slew of world class players, however, starting with 2006 Wachovia champ Jim Furyk. Furyk has been in a playoff for the title each of the last two years, but he'll have to break a five-week skid to contend this week. Furyk hasn't registered a top 10 since mid-February. Like Furyk, Vijay Singh also has a win and a runner-up at Quail Hollow, so he'll likely be in the mix. Operation Fix My Driver began with a T3 at the Byron Nelson for Phil Mickelson, but that finish had nothing to do with a driver that barely found half of the fairways and everything to do with a putter that didn't see a putt it didn't like. Based primarily on his third place finish at this event a year ago, Adam Scott should not be overlooked.

The Best of the Rest
A handful of players come into this week riding some serious momentum. At the top of the list is last week's winner Scott Verplank. He won what he refers to as the fifth major a week ago and finished tied for 11th in his only previous trip to Charlotte. As you'll see below, Rory Sabbatini is as hot as his temper these days, as is Vaughn Taylor, who is riding a wave of top 10s in general (three in his last four events) and at Quail Hollow (two in a row). Jerry Kelly and Masters champ Zach Johnson are both sporting top-10 streaks of their own, but both will have to overcome less-than-stellar historical results at Quail Hollow to keep it up. Trevor Immelman, last year's runner-up, certainly deserves mention, as do the usual suspects like Luke Donald, Ernie Els, and Henrik Stenson.

Who's Hot?
Rory Sabbatini: The volatile South African figured something out at the Masters. He followed his unlikely tie for second at Augusta with a T3 last week at the Byron Nelson, which was fueled by a final-round 64.

Zach Johnson:Johnson now has three consecutive top 10s, including, of course, his Masters win. Sadly, he also appears on "The Ugly" list below.

Who's Not?
Trevor Immelman: Last year's Wachovia runner-up will have to shake a recent slump to contend again this week. He's finished better than T35 just once in his last four events.

Robert Allenby: After starting the year with four straight top-10 finishes, Allenby has placed T32 or worse in three of his last four tournaments.

Player Trends
It's not a fool-proof indicator of future success, but golfers who fare well at a particular venue tend to do so time and again. With that in mind, we provide a list of players who have notable trends at this week's event (most recent results are listed first).

The Good
Vijay Singh (T38, Win, T10, T2)
Geoff Ogilvy (T10, T22, T10)
Vaughn Taylor (T6, T5, Cut)
Joey Sindelar (T6, T33, Win, Cut)
D.J. Trahan (T14, T9)

The Bad
Peter Lonard (Cut, T44, T40)
Rory Sabbatini (T52, Cut, T50, T40)
Rod Pampling (T56, T28, Cut)
Stuart Appleby (T52, Cut, T15, Cut)
Carl Pettersson (T38, T64, Cut, Cut)

The Ugly
Zach Johnson (Cut, Cut, Cut)

Weekly Rankings
1. Tiger Woods
2. Jim Furyk
3. Vijay Singh
4. Phil Mickelson
5. Adam Scott

Doesn't make much sense to go with the books as the Betfair prices are much more tempting - anyways this is what I played:
Axley 500/1 Sportingbet 1/4 1-5
Duke 1-5 25/1 SportsTAB 150 to win Betfair
Gove 1-10 33/1 SportsTAB 760 to win Betfair
Haas B 275/1 Stan James 1/4 1-5
Love 1-5 25/1 Expekt 160 to win Betfair
MacKenzie W 1-10 20/1 SportsTAB 590 to win Betfair
Mahan 1-10 25/1 Stan James 730 Betfair
Purdy 1-10 22 Betfair 739 Betfair
Sutherland 1-5 46 Betfair 432 Betfair
Wagner 1-10 25/1 Stan James 600 Betfair
Weekley 1-5 34 Betfair 290 Betfair

Weekley's price is simply ridiculous in my eyes.

Just on a side note.. I am worried about jims putting but his ball striking has been alright. I am fading immelman becuz he has lost like 25 lbs since the masters and i dont think hes gotten all of his energy and strength back. Also fading zack becuz he took 2 weeks off compl from golf.. tough course to come back to ( see tiger at last years open)
