Zapote, Costa Rica, 7 July 2005) It is only a matter of time before the Tampa Bay Devil Rays completely implode. Since their inception, they have never come close to contending for a playoff spot, and they draw fewer and fewer fans every season. Three years ago, when legendary manager Lou Pinella took the Devil Dogs for reasons unknown, some thought things would get better; many didn?t know how brilliant Pinella is. After the promise of increasing the Devil Rays? payroll was taken back by ownership, Sweet Lou has become increasingly angry over the past months.
It only seems inevitable that Pinella will resign or give the Devil Rays a reason to fire him, and in essence, put an otherwise Hall Of Fame Manager out of his misery. At two weeks before the All-Star break, the D-Rays seem headed towards another monster losing season. With the future not looking any brighter than it did the first day they played baseball in Tampa, it is clear that no matter who the manager is, this team needs help absolutely everywhere.
"If I were Lou Pinella, I would not want to spend another day in Tampa," said Wagerweb.com CEO Dave Johnson. "He is definitely one of the best managers of this generation, but a manager alone can?t change the joke that is the Devil Rays.?
