I?m adding Carolina for an action play. (It?s a TV game in my area, so I?m going to watch. I don?t see any posts on this game, so here is my two cents).
The Panthers have currently won 9 straight preseason games, going back to 2002 against Cleveland. It is currently the longest streak in the league. You don?t see this very often. (Hmm, could this explain why Carolina was decimated with injuries early last year?)
My handicap is based on how poor Washington has been in camp, their injury situation, the WR competition for Carolina (Gardner to be a starter over Colbert), HC Fox going for the win at home, and the fact that they are the largest fav on the board.
From the AP article by Jenna Fryer at ?wusatv9.com/news?:
?The game will be the first chance for the Redskins to see if coach Joe Gibbs fixed his shaky offense with some offseason tinkering. Early indications haven't been promising, with the team sputtering in a scrimmage against Baltimore while quarterback Patrick Ramsey was sacked four times.
?[WR Rod] Gardner should get a decent amount of playing time Saturday night with the status of starter Keary Colbert uncertain because of a strained hamstring.
?Colbert's week on the sidelines gave Gardner extended time with the first team and Carolina's coaching staff realized they may end up with a battle for the starting position.?
Carolina:
Out is?
RB Stephen Davis - Davis is to begin camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list, meaning he won't practice with his teammates but will work on his own to continue rehabilitation for microfracture knee surgery. Davis isn't expected to pass his physical today, and can't come off the PUP list until he does
Questionable:
WR K. Colbert (hammy)
Doubtful:
CB K. Lucas (hammy)
S M. Minter (knee) - Left practice on August 4 with his left knee heavily wrapped in ice.
Redskins:
Out are?
LB Lavar Arrington (knee)
WR Taylor Jacobs (toe)
DT Brandon Noble (knee)
CB Carlos Rodgers (ankle)
CB Artell Hawkins (hammy)
CB Tony Dixon (hammy)
Trivia:
This is the fourth consecutive season the Redskins and Panthers have met in the preseason.
The Game has several local connections:
- Redskins Coach Joe Gibbs is a NC Native and owns a NASCAR race team based in the state.
- Don Breux, the Redskins Offensive Coordinator spent 8 seasons as the Panthers TE?s coach.
- Panthers OC Dan Henning went to two Super Bowls as the Redskins? Offensive Coordinator.
-Panthers Rod Gardner and Stephen Davis are former Redskins.
