WAKE FOREST-13 1/2 over *Duke by 3
Although Wake lost to NC State and Virginia, they beat Purdue and then upset an injured Georgia Tech team. There isn't any question that the Deacons are vastly improved under coach Jim Grobe. The Devils are also an improved team. They may not be as talented as the Deacons, but Duke is 9-2 ATS vs. Wake. They lost by 7 to Wake last year and now they are a double digit dog. The margins in Wake's games have been slim. It's simply too many points.
USC-12 1/2 over *California by 7
Both of these teams are battle tested as they have faced tough competition. USC lost in O.T. at Washington State giving up over 500 yards in the process. The Trojans are still spotty on offense and only rushed for 72 yards last week. Cal already has outright road dog victories over Michigan St. and Washington. They are 5-2 ATS vs. USC and won 4 of the last 7 straight-up. Cal QB Boller is guiding the Bear offense to an average of 40 points a game and they returned 16 starters, mostly upperclassmen. Take the points.
*GEORGIA-3 1/2 over Tennessee by 8
This is the first pure road game all year for the Vols. They have been in Tennessee their last 5 games, yet have not looked so good. They needed 6 O.T.'s to subdue Arkansas. Georgia made a mockery out of the supposedly stout Alabama defense. The one-two punch of QB Green's passing and RB Smith's running will wear down the beleaguered Tennessee defense. Vol "D" allowed 25 first downs and 238 yards rushing to landlocked Arkansas. Dawgs roll!
