I just noticed mlb_com says he threw 0 pitches. i.e. no action-like.
They also give him a 'game score' of 40. Apparently the default for just being named starter, or taking the mound and then getting hit by lightning or whatever happened.

Totally cool my way as I have ov8 closing a big enough parlay that I came back on un9 for some hedgemonster. Only thing I've read is:

"Lyles was a late scratch from Saturday's start against the Giants for unknown reasons, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic Bay Area reports.

Lyles was assumed to be Saturday's starting pitcher until Matt Strahm came in to warm up in the first inning. It's not yet clear why Lyles was removed, but Strahm was given extra time to warm up, which means he was sent into the game as an injury or illness replacement rather than a strategic change."

but I remained baffled by the non-zero 'game score.'

6/23:San Diego Padres starter Jordan Lyles was a very late scratch from his start Saturday against the San Francisco Giants. There's been no announcement from the team but Lyles was unable to come out to pitch the bottom of the first inning in San Francisco. Reliever Matt Strahm is making an emergency spot start in his stead. More information should become available on Lyles imminently.--Andrew Le - RotoBaller

Good enough.

Made me think of something else.
If Lyles had come up to bat in the top of the 1st, even two or three times, and then not thrown the first Padres pitch of the day, then still no action. cool.

A pitcher is deemed a starting pitcher after throwing one pitch.

I didn't know you were AI, IE.
anyways, was looking for something more like:

Game Score is a metric devised by Bill James to determine the strength of a pitcher in any particular baseball game. To determine a starting pitcher's game score:

Start with 50 points.
Add one point for each out recorded, so three points for every complete inning pitched.
Add two points for each inning completed after the fourth.
Add one point for each strikeout.
Subtract two points for each hit allowed.
Subtract four points for each earned run allowed.
Subtract two points for each unearned run allowed.
Subtract one point for each walk.

I remember this shit, now, as in the off-season I was watching some of the games on their 'best game scores' list, e.g. the Kerry Wood 20-K show.

I still don't get the 40, mentioned. Unless its been adjusted from the '50' in the wiki article.
Don't matter. Just spreading some more useless info for those disposed to the continuation of existence.
