Germany to advance -120
Germany to score more than 1 goal -115

- Arg overrated, Ger underrated by media.

- Arg loaded with bad karma from Heinze's foul. Should have been red, and would have put Mexico through.

- Ger's keeper has only had to make six (6) saves

- almost no chance Ger will get screwed by refs. Even chance Arg will be laid on heavy by refs. If Arg does another Heinze foul, you can bet your life Ger will get a PK or Arg will reduce a man.

- Klinsmann says anything short of semis is failure; Pekerman says it's a shame one of the two has to lose. That's how coaches who won't be overly upset to lose talk.

Bottom line: it's a fifty fifty game - except for the circumstances, which all favor Germany.

The media are third-world-queer, and they underestimate the German strikers, which are the belles of this ball. If Brazil does it, it's "beautiful" - but the Brazilians themselves say this is marketing bullshit.

Ukraine and Italy

Pass.

Price too high on Italy. which has bad karma from its bs foul against Australia.

Hard to say how Italy will react to Pessotto's attempted suicide. They could fall apart or galvanize. Ita has allowed no goals other than one own-goal. Ukr hasn't looked much, but... Better to avoid this game, or bet it live.

England and Portugal

England to advance -160

Obstacles continue to self-destruct, clearing the path for lousy-playing England. With two main players for Port missing, either bet England or stay off. I would like to see England lose, but I think they will advance.

Brazil and France

Brazil -.5 -121

Bra -1 +170 is attractive, but -.5 you double your money if they win by one goal. Brazil has solid revenge motive, and although it has shown openings on defense, it seems to have offense on tap.

Bra is -250 to advance, but if Brazil can't win in ninety minutes, then there's no reason to think it's any likelier to prevail in ET or on PKs. So give the half goal and avoid the 2.5x price.

England analysis

England hasn't precisely been playing lousy. Rather, it has played teams that, with the exception of Sweden, haven't tried to beat it. Even when England took the lead, TT and Ecuador stayed defensive.

England is both better and worse than it has shown so far, which is more a measure of its opponents attitudes than anything. England is better on offense than it has shown so far, but it is also worse on defense.

What I believe the tournament is pointing toward is a Germany-Brazil final, with Germany winning. Brazil's defense is worse than Germany's, it's strikers are no better, so I think Germany will prevail.

Mexico/Texas
Jimbo...i don't think Argentina is overrated(or Germany underrated)..i really think that Mexico put them to the test and they almost succumbed by their superiority fixation.. that won't happen again ...expect this game to be another Argentina (which btw has the best players...only 3 play in Argentina and the rest are in Italy Germany Spain England and Brazil) and if Germany as a home team has the pressure to advance..wait for the Argentinian counter-offense (remamber Costa Rica's 2 goals?)...so believe Germany is the better team...i'll stick to Argentina.

We'll see. Hopefully it's a good back and forth attacking game...

Really, the only good defense is a good offense, these days. If you hang back, you're risking getting f*ed by refs.

Just imagine the atmosphere...the pressure's on the Argentinians.
