We Were Soldiers

Saw this movie last nite & feel that this is one of the best war movies that I have seen.Maybe because this was a true story about a US colonel who led 400 soldiers into battle in the first major skirmish of the Viet Nam War.
Mel Gibson stars as Colonel Hal Moore & IMO gives a truly great performance.The battle scenes are graphic , gruesome,& very intense.The movie does't paint a pretty picture of what war is,& I think that was the Director's intent.Don;t want spoil it for people who may want to see it.I will say that after seeing it I wonder why Gen. Westmoreland,the field commander for the Viet Nam war was not fired or even arrested for incompetence.Same for Pres. Johnson.Both of these men basically misled Col.Moore about this battle & generally lied to the American public about the progress of the war.Thankfully now the Presidents & Generals fight to win a war & give the soldiers everything they need to win.

IMO this movie is a must see to get a soldiers perspective of the war.

Glad you liked it Jack.Another movie I would recommend although not as good is Black Hawk Down.It gives you a flavor for the type of enemy we are fighting now.I was angry about the lack of support given by the higher ups in the We Were Soldiers movie but after watching Black Hawk Down I was livid at the Pentagon & White House.They had no clue about the enemy.Again I don't want to give too much away but when Bush talked about how the soldiers in the present war would get all the support they needed,he was referring to this battle in Somalia & how the soldiers in Black Hawk Down did not get the proper help to win that battle.

If you all only knew how truly INEPT our nations military really is. TRUST ME@!!!!!! I am fresh out and would have feared for my life if I ever had to go to war with the unit I was with and we were a Marine Expeditionary Unit --which really specializes in war.

Don't get me wrong, i have been in army ( sniper ) and i understand
that ground forces need strong air/artillery/supply support, but
nuclear weapons ? Where it can be reasonably used ?

Great movie really liked it a lot. Also don't bother with "Time Machine" , I saw it this past weekend, put me to sleep.
