looking for info on the best way to start up a website......

need to know how to get a domain name, and if you can only have the site that you register the domain name with as the host.

it will be for a youth baseball team (non-profit, obviously) but we may also want a hosting site that will have the security capabilities for a donation link, or paypal donations.

if i register a name at godaddy.com, can i take that name anywhere to host the site?

........ I'll have about a million more questions for anyone that is able to provide assistance. :)

oh, and Jackson, have you ever thought of starting up a Teen Sports Forum? ;)

LOL, IE.....feds probably wouldn't like it, but my kids unfortunately do. :( they probably get to spend more time here these days than i do.

i guess i worded the original question wrong tho, think what i meant was 'have you ever thought about starting up a teens WEBSITE?' (as opposed to adding a teen forum to this site)

You lookin' to put Vinnie on tilt?

LOL Matt!! that would likely put him over the edge, wouldn't it?

(my 14 yr. old is posted in the MOJO forum tho, in order to show the good DOC how she'd grown up since he gave her piggy back rides around the campground so she could steal his katsup potato chips (HOW GROSS!!!)

thanks Jack.... have it registered and parked, what should my next step be? (i'll be glad when i get it to the point to just create the damn site, cuz then i can just hand it over to the kids!!)

these are a couple of links i was using to try and look things over, but it is all written in Greek for some reason :(

http://www.webweaver.nu/domain.shtml https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/hosting/shared.asp?isc=touchdown1&ci=9009

how would i go about transferring the domain name to one of the free sites, would i have to pay to register the name thru them also? would i just be better off staying with the cheapie at godaddy?

http://www.futurefalconsbaseball.com will be the site, and it will be used for team photos, donations, records, and a message board for communication between parents and coaches is a must.

thanks for steering me in the right direction.

after you find a website host they will give you 2 IP's that you put in the name server field's at godaddy. then it takes about 2 days for it to setup.

then you can start building,

not sure what software you want to use, maybe someone else can help you there. i use to use microsoft front page and ws_ftp but haven't used anything for mj's in about 5 years.
