Pitt........
Going against the Canadiens always gets Aubin's heart pumping. He grew up in Montreal but rooted for the Quebec Nordiques. He is 1-3 against Montreal with a 4.38 goals-against average.

"Montreal is Montreal," he said. "It's always great to play against them."

Aubin is a two-time 20-game winner who was the Penguins' top goalie last season until Hedberg was acquired at the trade deadline. Since then, Aubin has won exactly one game. He is 1-4-1 this season with a 3.23 GAA and a .884 save percentage.

Aubin will start tonight against Montreal..

The Penguins' penalty kill has gone through a rough cycle lately. After going through a 12-game stretch earlier this season where it killed 49 of 51 penalties and rose toward the top of the league, it has evened out. It has allowed at least one goal in 13 of 17 games since then, including five of the past six games.

As of Tuesday, it was 18th in the league with a success rate of 84.8 percent.

Kehoe said that winger Aleksey Morozov (bruised shoulder) will not play tonight but could be ready for the weekend games against Washington.

Kehoe said that winger Stephane Richer, who missed his second consecutive practice because of the flu, is questionable for the game tonight

The Penguins lines at practice: Jan Hrdina with Alexei Kovalev and Robert Lang; LaCouture with Kris Beech and Billy Tibbetts; Kevin Stevens with Milan Kraft and Toby Petersen; and Krzysztof Oliwa with Wayne Primeau and John Jakopin

Montreal learned Monday that D Sheldon Souray has been playing with a broken left wrist, and he is scheduled to have surgery today. Montreal also will be without RW Donald Audette (arm) and LW Jan Bulis (knee) tonight.

Florida..........

the Panthers claimed defenseman Darren Van Impe off waivers from the Rangers. This is the third time Van Impe has been waived...

Center Viktor Kozlov, another forward who can play the point, has been out with an injury in the hip flexor and groin area. He is doubtful for tonight's game.

The hesitancy of defenseman Jeff Norton to unleash his weak shot made him a questionable asset on the power play, but he has been out with a sprained knee suffered Friday.

This also is another hint that offensive-oriented defenseman Dan Boyle might not see much more NHL action in a Panthers uniform. Boyle hasn't played a game for Keenan, even when the Panthers have been short defensemen or power-play point men.

The groin injury defenseman Paul Laus sustained in the third period Monday wasn't as bad as first feared.

Left wing Kristian Huselius remained in New York under a doctor's care from what the Panthers are calling a ``gastrointestinal disorder.'' He will miss tonight's game and is questionable for Saturday's game against St. Louis

Wash.........

Kolzig should be back tomorrow night against the Panthers The big goalie missed Saturday night's 5-2 victory over Atlanta nursing not a sprained ankle but a deep bone bruise suffered two nights earlier against Boston.

"Whenever I'd go down in the butterfly and try to recover, my skate would dig into where the irritation was and made my lower leg weak," Kolzig said yesterday after taking the full practice, which he admitted surprised even him. "It went pretty well. I think I'll be OK for Wednesday..
Washington's training staff has devised a cushion to isolate Kolzig's injury, putting a doughnut-like absorbent pad around the sore area to protect it from being aggravated, allowing the goalie to operate without restriction.

The rulings for center Andrei Nikolishin and right wing Dainius Zubrus will have to wait. Nikolishin, out with a bruised leg, will try to skate today and a decision will be made after practice. Wilson said he expects Nikolishin to be in the lineup tonight after missing the last two games with a leg injury.

Zubrus, out with a slight groin pull, tried to skate yesterday but took himself off the ice within minutes, meaning he may sit a few more days.

Detroit........

Forward Darren McCarty didn't practice Tuesday. Coach Scotty Bowman said McCarty called in sick but the illness wasn't the reason he scratched McCarty for Monday's game against Chicago. . . . Bowman said Mathieu Dandenault would move back to defense after one game at forward.

Injuries: Detroit -- D Uwe Krupp (shoulder), D Jesse Wallin (groin/abdomen), out; F Darren McCarty (illness), questionable. Vancouver -- D Harold Druken (ankle), F Trent Klatt (abdomen), out

The Wings' 3-0 loss Saturday night at Vancouver was their first loss to the Canucks in 19 games.

The Wings have not scored since Steve Yzerman's winner in the third period of Thursday's 2-1 victory in Edmonton. They have been shut out twice since that game, and their scoreless streak is at 125 minutes, 24 seconds.

"I've never seen anything like this," right wing Brett Hull said.
Coach Scotty Bowman said after Tuesday's practice he wants to get his defense more involved offensively.
Mathieu Dandenault and Jiri Fischer are two defenseman who Bowman believes can jump into the play aggressively. They are often paired with defensemen Nicklas Lidstrom and Chris Chelios.

Chicago.......
This is the Hawks' fourth game in six nights.

Sutter has been pleased with Spacek since his return, ""Jon Klemm and Phil Housley and Boris Mironov and Alexander Karpovtsev are our first four defensemen. Steve Poapst and Chris McAlpine provide steadiness. But Spacek's upside is way higher than that of Steve and Chris?he has played in world-class competition (as a member of the Czech team that won the gold medal at the 1998 Olympics)."

Blackhawks general manager Mike Smith said Monday that at least one team has called to ask if he was willing to trade Tony Amonte.

The answer, as it has been for weeks, is yes.

"If the right deal comes along, we'll trade Tony," Smith said before the Hawks went out and blanked the Red Wings 2-0 at Joe Louis Arena, putting forth possibly their best defensive effort of the season. "I've said that all along. But we'd still like to sign him if we can, and I've said that all along.

Goalie Biron starts tonight against Chicago sez Buffalo News. Noronen has been sent down. Biron says he is "refreshed" from time off, and practiced real hard "felt really, really good" in those practices mon and tues.

Biron sports 2-0-0 record before Chi, 2.47 gga and .898 pct. Chi's Thibault is 3-8-5 against Buff, 3.20 with .875 pct. I think only his records against STL and Phi are worse. But he is relatively rested, if the team isn't.

Chi ends 4 game road trip tonight in Buff. They've alternated between wins and losses on this swing, and that's a big improvement over the previous ones. It includes a big win over Detroit last game, 2-0. So no matter what happens tonight, it's been a good and successful trip for them.

Buffalo hasn't played since loss at Rangers Sat. They are rested and ready, maybe a bit rusty--hence the tough practice. Next they have a home and away stand with Toronto starting 21st.

PHOENIX

Esche rejoins Coyotes
Scottsdale, AZ (Sports Network) -
The Phoenix Coyotes recalled goaltender Robert Esche from the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League.

Esche, 23, was assigned to Springfield on November 27. He played one game for the Falcons, making 35 saves for a shutout. The netminder had been rehabilitating a groin injury.

Last season, the 6-foot-1, 200-pound goaltender played 25 games for the Coyotes, posting a 10-8-4 record with a 3.02 goals against average. Esche was drafted by Phoenix in the sixth round of the 1996 Entry Draft.

Esche is expected to be between the pipes when the Coyotes play host to the Calgary Flames on Wednesday night.

of course, this is not set in stone, just caught it on the net, any additional info is appreciated!!

Only info I got on Esche was from Phx official press release just sez he's recalled and "will be available" tonight.

Is Giguere going against Roy again tonight? They dueled to 1-1 tie several days ago, but Giguere played last night. He has started once this season consecutive nights.
But then, he hasn't worked hard. Last two outings combined was only 35 shots on goal. Under looks better, eh?

Press keeps hinting Hnilicka will start tonight for AT. But last night he stopped 53 shots on goal, a club record. I see them putting in Rhodes tonight!

Wigs--it is nice up here. An inch of snow, different scene from Cen TX. Kind of makes you think of the frozen pond more.
