Sticking with UM hoops, as you probably know by now Miami's down yet another big man since Raymond Hicks has been indefinitely suspended from the team (CLICK HERE TO READ THE STORY). It's the second time he's been suspended this season and this time he isn't even allowed to practice. Frank Haith isn't sure if he'll let Hicks back on the team the rest of this season. While I don't know what Hicks is being punished for, and usually opt not to speculate, it must be really serious considering Haith's choosing to have his team finish the year with ONE BIG MAN.
"It's a continual situation we've got to get fixed," Haith said of Hicks. "Hopefully Ray will learn from this. That's what we're trying to do."
Freshman forward Dwayne Collins is truly UM's last big man standing and Haith said the biggest troubles UM's shortage of post players has caused comes in practice, where Collins has no one to simulate what he'll be going up against in games like tonight's contest against Boston College.
Haith was too embarrassed to even say who Collins practices against (I'm assuming it's 6-5 walk-on Keaton Copeland, who has started six games this season and plays regular minutes), which really illustrates what type of season UM's had this year.
If the Boss had a heart he'd loan Haith Calais Campbell for a couple of weeks just to practice. I'm sure Haith would welcome any UM student standing over 6-foot-5 to walk-on considering he's only got 10 healthy and non-suspended (seven on scholarship) players, which is just enough to practice 5-on-5.
The depth of this team's pain on and off the court has truly been a nightmare, one I believe this team will build off just like Virginia Tech did last season before becoming respectable this year.
