Columbus at Anaheim......10:30 PM EST

The Play: Columbus(+.5,+120) for 4 units

This one is not for the weak of heart as we have the NHL's worst road team(Columbus) coming into Anaheim to play one of the hottest teams in the NHL. However, when we look a little deeper into this game, I think we can find some pretty good angles favouring the underdog.

Yes, Columbus has been poor on the road this year with a 4-18-3 record straight up, and a 7-16-2 record ATS. But even with the Ducks current winning streak, they are still the 2nd worst team in the Western Conference and have a very poor home record of 8-12-3 straight up and 8-14-3 ATS. Let's not let their fine play of the last week gloss over these numbers.

Year to date, Columbus has slightly better PP numbers and Anaheim has slightly better PK numbers so we'll call that a draw. But over the last 5 games, the Jackets PP has hit at 23.1% compared to the Ducks at 13.8%. Also over those same 5 games, the Jackets PK has been an outstanding 93.8% while the Ducks have been 84.0%. Advantage Columbus.

As I stated, Columbus is not the greatest road show in the NHL at all, but they are 6-1 ATS in the last 7 vs Anaheim, and have won the last 5 straight vs the Ducks, 2 of which were right here on the West coast, and I fell that is more than significant. They are currently 3-5-1 in their last 9 games overall, which is competitive, but consider that those 9 games were against opponents with a collective record 32 games over .500 and we can start to see that the Jackets are actually playing more than competitve lately. They have scored 2.7 goals per game in those 9 and have gotten 30 or more shots in 3 of their last 4.

Anaheim has been playing well on defence, granted, but that has masked a struggling offence. Throw out their 6 goal game against Dallas last week, where they were given an astounding 10 PP opportunities (and scored on three of them) and they have averaged just 1.7 goals over their last 7 games. In fact, they only got 18 shots on goal in EACH of their last 2 games. Hmmm.

I have saved the best for last in this play and here it is..............This game is a CLASSIC let down situation for Anaheim. They are coming home off a 3 game road trip which in itself is always a look-see to go against, but when that team arrives home after winning the final 2 games of the road trip (as the Ducks did) then the play against them becomes even stronger.......It's strictly a numbers thing.

Once again, I think we have a live one here tonight and I'm making it a 4 unit special.

Columbus(+.5,+120)

Good luck out there tonight,
Tiger

I agree.

Anaheim has also played alot of hockey in a compressed time frame this month and alot of those games were on the road.

Returning home after good road trip, one more game til the allstar break. I think we all know what that means.

I'll be adding this game as well.
