satisfying 3-0 on tuesday as wildcats almost pull off the upset and other two dogs win outright. record now 32-26-1. especially happy for monte towe's privateers. i love betting on second-level instate home dogs like new orleans that have lots of players passed over in recruiting by the big schools like lsu. you can always count on the motivation level to be high.

i think we have another good dog for wednesday.

la tech +5: here's a line based on rep alone. though uab better on paper, right now tech simply playing like the better team. bulldogs 5-2 su, 3-0 ats away; only two losses by 8 @ iowa and by 4 in ot @ oklahoma; beat auburn @ auburn, a team comparable to blazers. tech well coached and well balanced with four players averaging in double digits. uab underachieving this year, team chemistry just not right. at least two players have been suspended already this year for conflicts with coach bartow, currently g asa woods. blazer center will campbell, big component in uab offense, will play tonight despite neck stinger suffered in practice on monday. while uab traditionally has good homecourt advantage, this year they have already lost in birmingham to richmond and lasalle, two teams inferior to tech imo. i think tech should be laying a couple to blazers so got to go with the dog.

looking at a couple of others, back later.

know of no reason for line move other than public (or other) action on the blazers. doesn't bother me a bit. i'll wait to put in the play and will post if i discover some significant reason for the move. i actually bet into line moves if i liked the play before the action started. as you can now tell, i'm home for the day and will keep a eye out for any info while i lounge around with a little holiday cheer and have some fun capping college hoops.

add:

ga tech -2: well, know that davidson had their day in the sun when they beat the tarheels, and they're not a bad little 5-3 team. but we also all know the real value of that vicvtory over carolina. besides the heels, davison has beaten oglethorp, navy, elon and wahington & jefferson - not exactly murderer's row. tech is truly one of the weaker teams in the acc, but the talent differential is huge. any team that can handle syracuse can handle davidson. this game not being played at davidson but at the charlotte coliseum, where past tech teams have won two acc tourneys. besides, the entire davidson student body could fit into my neighborhood bar. i assure you tech would have beaten carolina in chapel hill if not for some tremendous home cooking. tech by dd's.

la tech line now +7 so will grade the play by this number. adding another:

portland state +28-: okay, okay, i know. i hardly ever play dogs i don't think have a chance to win outright and thus i don't usually fool with lines like this. and i know that back-to-back tourney games hugely favor the stronger team playing at home. but the cardinal hadn't covered this number till last night and have absolutely no incentive to do so again tonight. everybody knew going in who the winner of this holiday feel-good tourney was going to be, and stanford plays in vegas saturday night against byu in a espn nationally televised game. it defies good sense to want to forsake fresh legs in a game where the outcome is preordained before you travel to play in the limelight this weekend. as we saw last night, vikings an undervalued, decent team that has no reason or inclination to quit tonight. cardinal by 20.
