MC --
Home court is a very powerful advantage for MAAC teams, especially those at the bottom of the heap.
Manhattan, Fairfield and Niagara seem to be able to beat all of the other MAAC teams on the road or at home.
Iona, Siena and Cansius are pretty solid at home.
Marist should be able to take care of the bottom 3 at home.
St. Peter's, L-M and Rider are ONLY going to win at home.
IMO L-M is not the worst team in the MAAC -- they've got decent size and Lucious Jordan is a pretty good player. They're a young team and they are susceptible to a lot of TOs, esp. vs the better MAAC teams which play tough D.
In their recent loss to Canisius, they did shoot 49% from the field but their 20 TOs killed them.
St. Peter's lives and dies by the scoring of freshman Keydren Clark who is one of the top scorers in the country at 25.2 ppg. He's shooting 40% from the arc which is incredible because most games he's double teamed. (when's he going to transfer?)
A couple of thoughts:
- St. Peter's doesn't have a great D, which should help keep L-M's turnovers down and if their good shooting carries over from their last game they should be able to record the win.
- this is a revenge game: L-M which was embarassed in their earlier 83-58 loss at St. Peter's.
- Clark is coming off a poor shooting game, he only shot 5-21 from the field including 1-9 from the arc at Fairfield. L-M has some big men, not as big as Fairfield's but if they can keep their arms up and don't foul maybe they can keep Clark's scoring down. The better teams in the league have figured out that if they can stop Clark they can shut down St. Peter's, which is why S-P is 0-5 ATS in their L5.
Bottom line: these are two of the bottom 3 teams in the MAAC; a good friend used to tell me not to throw good money after bad teams. Only a small play for me.
- L-M is 6-0 vs St. Peter's at home.
