It's an odd feeling looking at the board and being disappointed that there isn't a St. Peter's game to play. Had them last night (4-1 this year with them) with Kentucky for a 2-0 night. Season record to date: 35-35-1. As for today, I've yet to have back-to-back winning nights, so beware, or even fade, these picks:
Rutgers -5.5 vs. Miami. I know the Canes have been a great Big East road dog over the years and already have a 10-point win under their belt against Rutgers, but I'm with the Scarlet Knights here who have been on a nice point spread run at home this season. In each of Rutgers last two home games, I thought they were bargains as home favorites (-7 vs St. John and -4 vs. ND), but bet on other games, not trusting them as favorites. Of course, they covered in both game. I'm on the bandwagon tonight. . . hopefully my fat ass won't crash it.
NC State -2 vs Wake. Totally ignoring series history with this one by taking the Pack. Wake has won, I believe six in a row, against the Pack, but they're a bit overated this year. They're North Carolina-light: Great offense, sketchy defense. NC State has covered five games in a row at home averaging 83 points in those games. Better yet, they're 10-0 this year SU at home, and are 5-0 coming off a loss.
Memphis +2.5 vs. Louisville. The Tigers have won two in a row in this series and Louisville comes in banged up and not playing real well. Who is going to score for them tonight without Garcia and Dean? I hate making picks based on injuries, but I felt going into the season, this would a loss for Louisville and five hours before tip-off, my mind has not changed.
Rutgers, NC State and Memphis, all for one play.
BTW, I cut these games from my list (so they'll all cover): Western Michigan, I am just too big a wuss laying big road points in a rivalry game; Iowa State, just been very bad on the road as of late but they have a good series history with the Sooners; and Dayton, because betting against Richmond has caused many people, many problems the last two weeks!
