Dallas Mavericks

At this point in the season, the investment and priorities of teams are more clearly laid out. Nothing could be more evident in this game tonight. The Magic are 0-8 SU and 1-7 ATS in their last eight road games, losing by an average margin of 16.2 points, while giving up 104.5. Only one time this season have the Magic come off a home loss as a favorite to play as a road dog, and in that game they lost by 20. Since Nowitzki?s return, they are 6-0 SU (+17.3) and ATS as a home favorite, averaging 111.8 points per game.

This season as a home favorite, the Mavericks are averaging 107.4 points per game.

With their loss to the Bobcats last night, the Magic may have clinched the title for the worst NBA team right now. "Bad basketball. Bad defense. Just bad,'' guard J.J. Redick said. "Everybody was out there making mistakes. The NBA is about team defense. For the last 28 games we've been pretty awful on the defensive side of the ball.''

I don?t see their defensive prowess returning tonight in a back to back game against an offensive juggernaut that is hungry for a win.

Houston Rockets

This is an interesting match up tonight. This is the chance for Houston to really turn the tide and show that they belong in the same category (or at least conversation) with the Thunder. They need to keep winning as well, as there are teams desperate to climb into the eight spot in the west. The Thunder, on the other hand, have been *struggling* (compared to their usual play) recently. They have gone just 8-6 SU before the all-star break, allowing 100.9 points during this stretch and 103.2 on the road. I?m not sure that an all-star break was what this team really needed right now. Durant said - ?Hopefully we get some rest and come back rejuvenated,? but I don?t see them being prepared for this game tonight.

The Thunder have owned the Rockets twice this season, but Harden was not able to get going in either game. He was the last Rocket's player to leave the practice facility yesterday, and I think he wants to (and will) perform very well tonight. Perkins is out for the Thunder, and this should help the Rockets a bit inside, as they love to drive the lanes. If Harden can get going tonight, and the Rockets can control the glass, I think they have a great chance to win this tonight.

Rockets +3
Mavericks TT OVER 108.5
Bucks -4

Good luck...

Thanks HH. Any angle on 1st half of Bucks Nets? Figure both teams pretty tired from last night.

Nothing special for first half. Of course, I hope the Bucks are leading!

The Mavs first half could be a solid bet. Carlisle really stressed their inability to start games well this week at practice - they are the worst team in the league during the first six minutes of the game... so taking them first quarter or first half might be a decent bet. But, just because you stress it, doesn't mean it will happen! If any night, tonight would be a good night for that to change for them.

Good luck all!

gl, HH. Before I saw your post I was thinking of playing Mavs TT over too.

What do you think about the Lakers tonight? As crazy as it may sound, thinking about playing them depending on how my early games go. I like the spot, don't like the -7, but feel it may not matter. thx

Thanks canuck - so many easy plays on the board yesterday, I'm not happy with not posting more - was trying to stay conservative coming out of the break, but... easy to say when favorites go 8-2 ATS!

Sorry - didn't see this last night, but I did post about the emotional take on this game for the Lakers in my thread from Tuesday...

and it seems that it did play out that way:

?We?ve been in that situation with Red Auerbach and just so many emotions in that type of game?teams are very dangerous, especially in their home building,? Pierce said. ?Teams take a lot of pride in that, protecting that, going out and getting that first win, you could see it in their eyes. I saw it in Kobe?s eyes, he was real emotional coming out. He wanted this game badly. We understood that.?

Bryant didn?t play especially well, making just 5 of his 15 shots from the floor, but his intensity and competitiveness were both a notch above Wednesday.

?It?s very fitting,? Bryant said. ?It?s funny how sports always seem to have those poetic stories you know. Something like this happens and it just so happens that we play the Celtics the next game.?
