First - I?m sorry for being so dramatic these last few days. I promise no more talk about not posting, posting, this, that... just going to play it straight the rest of the season. jng is right, that you have to ride through the bad weeks, and it is not a reason to stop. Mainly, I just really liked that he used the word ?specious.? That was cool. I did a cap of myself earlier today, and my results said that based on past performances, I should be able to turn this around. Either way, I do this for fun and I think I will be able to end the year + money, which is always a good thing. I need to not take myself so seriously...sometimes :)

I like this game too much, and while my analysis and predictions may not always be correct, I?m trying to learn from each game, and improve myself with each year. Can?t improve if you are not willing to lose. On to the substance...

Hornets

The Hornets just got beat at home by the second worst team in the league, and now they are playing against a team on a mission. This line seems super short, even with the Lakers on a back to back. The Lakers are coming off a game where they committed 16 turnovers to the Thunder?s 2. Honestly don't have a lot of trends/stats to back up this play, but just watching the Lakers tells me what I need to know. They just have no hustle in them, and their defense is absolutely horrible. Nash can?t guard anything that moves. Despite his obviously hurting elbow, Kobe played more minutes than any other Laker in the game last night. Their 8 man rotation is forced to play a lot of big minutes, and at this time of year in a back to back, it can really hurt them.

If you watched the game last night, you saw the Lakers continually get slaughtered by the Thunder?s pick and roll. They do not defend this play well, and the Hornets are one of the teams that depend on this play the most - in fact, they get over 25% of their points per game from the pick and roll, and they are 9th in the league at running it efficiently (just after the Thunder). The Hornets have struggled defensively this year, but they always seem to play a lot better in the big games, and especially when they are a dog. Tonight they have a chance to put a real hurt on the Lakers, and they are going to get up for this game huge, and come out with the win.

Nets

The Nets need this win badly. At this point in the season, it is no longer - can you beat the Bobcats? But, how much can you beat the Bobcats by? This is a great matchup for the Nets. Just like they destroyed Orlando four times this year, I expect they will destroy the Bobcats tonight. They are 5-0 SU (+10.2) and 4-0-1 ATS in the last five meetings. I think they will win this by 20 or more.

Utah

The Cavaliers cannot play defense, and they don?t match up well against the Jazz. The Jazz are 5-0 (+12.2 ppg) SU and ATS against the Cavs since the King left town.

After an overtime loss against the Bucks, the Jazz have entered desperation mode, and they should play like it tonight. I don't particularly like their team, but they are better from top to bottom than the Cavaliers, and tonight I think they will come out strong. The Cavs have been playing well, which is why these lines are not super big right now, but tonight I think it should be a one-sided game.

Spurs

The Spurs are just rolling right now, and while the Bulls play tough every game, they are beleaguered by injuries that are going to catch up to them at this time of year. The worst injury for them tonight is Hinrich. Like him or not, the Bulls are better with him on the court. His net rating this season is +4.2, which is second best on the team. When he is not on the floor, the Bulls net rating is -1.0. Almost all of the Bulls? significant players shoot better from the field when he is on the floor. This year, the Bulls are 29-15 with Hinrich, and 5-11 without him.

Utah -1 x2
Nets -8
Hornets +2
Spurs -8

Good luck...

jng is right said:
JNG is one smart honcho, HH!! ;)

I wish he came around here more. He used to be a major contributor back in the ol' aol message board days when the net took off in the mid 90's until they took the boards down because of all the immature clutter and bashing that was going on back then. But there was some really good info being shared by many folks, MadJack, JNG, Gully35, Tom0co, Dabomb, Kiddzman, Eddie, the list could go on and on.

You are truly good at what you do and I know how many hours you put into each day of doing this stuff, I approximately nearly 7 hrs per day for me just on hoops, I put in 7 days a wk on football and usually start capping games the wk before the lines come out when games are being played - then get the info on injuries, etc., power numbers, keep them up to date, watch the line movements, etc.

So keep doing this and contributing, because you have made a huge positive impression on many in the MJForum and helped me become a better capper just for the lil info you provide on certain trends, games in a wk, couple nights back to back, etc., all that info helps tremendously!!

Thanks again and good luck tonight!!

I really like the Brooklyn Nets & Jazz tonight.

My local and off-shore took the Knicks off - local guy took in way too many wagers on them today, I'm guessing without knowing truly, that Detroit has some players out that were not first reported, all I saw was Monroe was out and Melo for Knicks probably won't play which is probably a good thing for the Knicks.

Anyhow, I'll shut my yap/fingers for now!!

Cleveland is a -1? pt fav at Pinny right now. Any ideas what is behind this change?

The change does not seem to affect HH's trends, at any rate. :0008

Thanks Wild Bill...

yanno - for Jazz - Jefferson is out, Mo Williams is coming back tonight (which I don't necessarily like that much...)

for Cleveland - Tyler Zeller will play

Don't know if all that affected the line movement that much?

Yea, the future odds are funny, really. The Lakers are 1-10 SU against western conference playoff teams. I think that line is crap. I'm not letting them Jedi mind trick me.

Lakers might win tonight, but they still have no chance in the playoffs. And, if they were certain to win, one would think the probability of it (according to what they set the line), would be a bit better.

Nice 4th, Hornets

After the Cavs went on a 12-1 run to end the game, I thought my bad beat for the night was over... then...

"Speaking of making it hard on themselves, the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the New Orleans Hornets 108-102 after erasing a 25-point second half deficit. Kobe Bryant scored 13 of his 42 points during a 20-0 run in the last 6:22 of the fourth quarter. The Hornets did not score a point in the final 6:30 of the game. According to ESPN Stats & Information, the Lakers 25-point comeback was their third largest in the Kobe Bryant era and their largest in more than 10 years."

Complete article

The thing I didn't get, is that during the run (which actually they didn't score in the last 6:47 of the fourth), Monty Williams only subbed out ONE player until there were 50 seconds left. I just don't get it. What you are doing is obviously not working... your players are dogging it, and sucking offensively. Why do you wait until the other team ties it up to make substitutions?

HH - INCREDIBLY poor job my Monty Williams in the 4th quarter - no subs and didn't call a timout until his 25 point lead was reduced to 5 points!!!

He had multiple chances to call the TO and calm his team down but sat there and did nothing!! At about the 5 minute mark when you could tell things were going really bad, the Lakers cut it to 10 and it was the perfect opportunity for a TO and for Williams to calm his team down, remind them that despite the run they were still up 10 pts with 5 minutes left, and maybe even try to design a play to get a much needed bucket - but instead he sat on his hands and did nothing:shrug:

This guy is a bad coach and IMO he needs to go - this team will never amount to anything with him on the sidelines - unfortunately I don't see anyone in the Pelicans' front office doing anything about this

Sorry for your BS loss - gl moving forward

LA Burns - I agree with your assessment of Monty Williams. He has had a few gaffes this season already, and you can really distinguish between the great coaches, and the not so great coaches, by their end of game decisions. These things matter to gamblers, which is why I try to bet on teams with good coaches most of the time (and I say that in a thread with two poor coaches, haha), as end of game management can decide games (Orlando's propensity to foul, teams prone to the meltdown, etc.).

Cheers
