Week 1 bet of the year?

I would to preface by saying yes, I am a Jets fan, and yes I know they havent scored a TD in the preseason. With that said, I think they might be the bet of the year in week 1 at home against buffalo only giving 3 points and here is some reasons why.

The media has been making a joke of the Jets in the preseason, rightfully so, they havent done anything right? True. But here's the thing. Rex and Tony HAVENT done anything yet either! The asked to have camera's turned off during camp, they were asked not to run the wildcat or any "special" plays, in other words they did not show their new offense schemes and what they plan to do with Tebow and the rest of the offense. Why? well why not? Why show your hand? I understand that the wild cat didnt pan out to be the best offensive strategy, but the dolphins had great success with it in 2008, and lets face it, Ronnie Brown was being asked to throw the football, not Tim Tebow. Tebow isnt a elite QB at the throwing level but he is a hell of a lot more capable than Ronnie Brown. I am not saying the wild cat is be all end all because its not, and defenses , film study, good coaches can stop the wildcat. I dont personally think the Jets will be able to effectively run any special offense for more than a few weeks because teams will catch on and adjust. But what I can say is that BUffalo has NO IDEA what the Jets are going to do in week 1, therefore, they have no game plan. I shouldnt say they have no game plan, they do, but what are they planning for? They dont know. I would like to think the Jets with their regular offense can beat buffalo at home by more than 3 points. I am extremely confident that with Tebow, some trick plays, wild cat, different looks that they will dominate buffalo and they will have no idea how to stop it. This is only a one or two week betting advantage that we have with the Jets because it will get slowed down immediately once coaches start figuring it out.

I dont think the Jets are an 8-8 team, they may only have 5 wins, and the new offense with Sporano and Tebow could suck by week 3, I will admit that, but I think the money and the value on the Jets comes in weeks 1 and 2 when the opposing teams cannot really plan for something they have no idea is going to happen. Am I way off with this thinking here?

I have to take the JETS -3 against BUFFALO in week 1, it seems like a no brainer.

I appreciate any comments to this. This isnt a homer bet, this is simply a bet where I think one team has a clear advantage over another team regardless of what team name is on the front of their jerseys.

You might want to check the strong DLine of the Bills against the struggling, unable to open a hole OLine of the Jets. Not to mention Sanchez is apparently in panic mode whenever someone is getting with 10 feet of him. I expect M. Williams to show why he got that huge contract. Be careful....it could be ugly.

My take

Bills 24
Jets 20

I believe you are thinking correctly about this game.

I usually dont bet the first week of the NFL as there is no way to figure out what teams are bringing to the table at the start of the season.

I do have one game I am looking at really close for the start of the season. I may play it going against my better judgement.

Good Luck . seems like the right spot for the Jets

The Jets starting offensive team has yet to play together PLUS, as you say, the Tebow plays have not debuted either. The Bill's defense is formidable as is that of the Jets. Offensively, Fitzpatrick is as erratic as Sanchez.

I think the line is right at -3. Game is likely to be close. Truly hope the Jets cover and may take them on the money line.

Call it: NY Jets 17 Buffalo 14

great!! anyone can come onto this website and post a score... whats your reasoning behind this? after all, thats what this site is for isnt it? if i wanted a posted score, i would go to the newspaper

Bills 24
Jets 13

Reasons:

Jets offense stinks.

More Reasons:

Bills are going to rush Sanchez and force him in to a lot of bad throws which isnt good since he has no good wr's to catch them. Their running attack wont be effective against the Bills D'Line and Sanchez whether he admits it or not is looking over his shoulder and thats going to have an effect on him. They do have a good D but they are going to have a lot of short drives on Offense so by the end the D will be worn down and I think the Bills score 10 to 14 in the 4th to pull away at the end.

based on what? last year? preseason? neither are applicable. they didnt run anything in preseason, which is the point of my thread/bet. its the value you are getting from a new offense on the field that nobody has seen yet. i am only talking about the value in this bet for week 1, maybe even week 2. not the entire season.

I also had Other reasons I like the Bills over the Jets that didnt get included in your requote of my post. I just feel that the Bills D is going to swarm Sanchez and their offense is going to score enough to win it. i wont be playing this game and I hope you win I was just giving my opinion on the game as the point of starting your thread was to gain other opinions and thats all I was doing is giving my opinion. Good Luck this year lets all make some money :)

Sorry dude. didn't mean to be a dick about it. I think the bills will stop Sanchez constantly. I don't see the Jets line holding much and Sanchez will be forced to throw interceptions etc....

I bet they put Tebow in to see if that works.

Anyway, they will have to rely on their running game and I don't see the Bills doing much more than setting them on their ass.

Bills will score. Jets will suffer.

In the past teams that have gone 4-0 in the pre-season stunk it up when the reg season started...This is also true of a team that is 0-4 but I'm going against the Jets because of the eye test...This game opened +6 so I got a good #...One more thing I don't have a team so I can bet anyone but you said you were a Jets fan I was always told not to bet your team (ever)...You might just want to watch as a fan and root for your other bets...gl

Anyone else taking the JETS today? I am feeling more confident about this pick every day as I keep hearing how the jets offense is terrible, blah blah blah

Bills are 0-5-1 ATS in their last 6 games as a road underdog of 0.5-3.0.

Lets do this!!

I played under large. Jets offense should have difficulty with bills defensive front. jets lack game breakers on offense, which compounds their issues. Also, Rex is an ass, but he knows the game must be shortened to win with an offense this ugly. 17-13 type game IMO

Stats can be found to support almost any view.

Road team is 8-1 ATS in their last 9 meetings.
Bills are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 meetings in New York.

While the Jets might turn out to be a good bet, their offense is indeed poor and with injuries they do not have much for receivers to throw to. Tebow will add a wrinkle, but lets wait to see if its more than just another running back as he is a horrendous passer.

The defenses in this game are solid, the Jets maybe a bit more so, but the Jets cant rush the passer, they are stronger in the secondary and thats what makes them very good. The Bills are the opposite, strong up front and can pressure the QB with Williams and Anderson.

I do not have a play in the game, but I do believe your letting your being a Jets fan cloud the thinking here, nothing screams Jets by more than 3 in this game....but hopefully they come through for you.

Unless you believe Greene will give them over 100 yards, I just don't see how the Jets will move the ball.

The Bills have a big upgrade on the defensive line and you have to anticipate they are going to load up against the run.

That means Sanchez has to throw the ball and I'm not sure he has any weapons to throw to. I think Kellar provides an option but, unless the Jets can score on defense or special teams, I'm not sure than can sustain a scoring drive.

Since we are posting scores, I'll go 13-9 Buffalo.
