Bengals by 1

I love the Bengals in this game. However, this more of an against Marty Shottenheimer bet than anything else. Shottenheimer's Redskins were ill-prepared last season (1-4 in pre-season and they got their asses kicked 30-3 in the road opener). Now, Shottenheimer will try to institute his system on yet another team (#4). It's very likely that Drew Brees will be the starter for San Diego in this game. I'm a huge fan of Brees, but getting a road start under Shottenheimer's system (and new offensive coordinator) is going to be a huge liability. Already, I can see conservative play calling and the Bengals keying in on RB Tomlinson now in his second year. Meanwhile, Bengals started out 2-0 last season and come into 2002 with a strong offensive line, RB Corey Dillon healthy, and Warrick at WR. Main question remains at QB. Chargers dominated both lines of scrimmage in the game played between these two teams last season (that game is still fresh on my mind). But it's funny how some teams remember the past and get revenge in the next game. Assuming Chargers struggle in pre-season (common for Shottenheimer-coached teams) this line could move to Cincinnati by 2, but I doubt if the line will hit 3 unless Tomlinson goes out in pre-season with an injury. No play, although I am leaning strongly to the Bengals at this time.

Drew Brees is a complete fraud, a product of a college systeym who has a knack of making horrible decisons. Marty S was a horrendous hire, Flutie at 40 is heeps better than drew B. The Charger O line is hideous, Both teams will run it and punt it, I like under here.

If you want -1 get it now. Cinn wins this by at least 4.

Before we get carried away on the Bengals, lets look at their offensive rankings from last year:

Rankings of 31 teams

Cin offense

rush yards #18
pass yards #23
these show they can move the ball a little.

pass TDs #30
sacked #24
interceptions #31
points scored #31

the Bengals have almost the same team back.

I agree with Nolan on the side of Cincy, but not because of Marty. The Bengals have built solid Off. and Def. lines over the past few years, especially with the addition of Justin Smith last year. The Off. has a year under their belt under B. Bratkowski's system and showed a lot of explosiveness at the end of last season and have all the tools for it to continue this season. Their Defense should be better this year with additions at safety and CB. If they sign Sam Adams, the Bengals defense could be dominating. The Bengals will remember the total collapse of their lines in last years game and will be out for revenge in this rematch. My money is on the Bengals in this one as I look for them to be a team on the rise this year. But then again there is no where else for them to go but up:rolleyes:

already took the bengals for 4%- jack you hit it on the head the marty teams never play well in preaseason until the last couple of games. cincy will roll ins this one. in preseason the coach and his tendencies is the key to winning in the preseason not talent. some coaches treat preseason like scrimmages and protect there players and playbooks. and others play them much more like a regular season game. also some teams have 2 adays longer and have much more physical camps than others that takes a toll in the preseason.

I just can't understand why anyone would place a wager on a regular season game now? If you want to bet pre-season - fine. But what happens when Corey Dillon goes down in the 3rd pre-season game and you have $ on the Bengals in the opener? Too many risks in my opinion to bet a game this early.

I'll tell ya who.....a very unwise and/or fledgling gambler. I'm awfully sorry if I'm offending anybody, but I tell it like it is. Wagering on an NFL game that is to be played nearly 5 weeks in the future is absolutely asinine. Save your money folks and wait a bit. Also, Brees a fraud? that's laughable. And no, I'm not a homer, I like the Bengals in this game as well, but I think I'll wait about a month before bellying up the window.........LOL

It took nearly a year for the Redskins to buy into Marty's philosophy last season.

It took nearly a year for the Redskins to buy into Marty's philosophy last season.

Chargers are very pleased to have a legititmate head coach and have already bought into his system. San Diego will win this game with Defense. Adding Jammer and Edwards will make an already solid defense even better. Bengals don't have a legitimate qb, and the Chargers have been one of the top rushing defenses in the Nfl in recent seasons. Chargers will play Marty Ball and win the battle of turnovers which will lead to a low scoring game and a slim Charger victory.
