Yes great guy… I broke my neck in 1986 and am paralyzed from the neck down, years ago was trying to create a voice-activated wheelchair with some engineers from UMass Lowell. 1 of the engineers was MW cousin. Got to know him, and he started giving me tickets to his fights, many great times. Foxwoods, Atlantic City, great HBO before and after parties LOL. 3 years in a row 2001, 2002, and 2003 he was fighter of the year. His career would have been even better, a cop broke his right hand in many places in a bar fight his brother started in the late 90s, he stopped boxing for 4 years. Ironically his brother was the 1st professional to knock down Sugar Ray Leonard, good boxer, but many drug problems.

Yes, do remember you sharing with the forum that you’re in a wheelchair due to breaking your neck back in 1986.
He sounds like a great guy. I’ve also seen the movie based on his and his brothers lives and it sounds like it wasn’t far from the truth if his brother had drug problems.

No not far from the truth at all. He bought a ice rink and turned it into a boxing gym, he trains many young fighters now. Sadly has a bit of CTE from so many wars in the ring.

I youtubed that fight Mickey had against Gatti, that was crazy back and forth pummeling. I was wondering after watching if they had CTE. I also saw that Gatti may have committed suicide at 36, sad.

These two were as evenly matched through 3 fights as any 2 boxers I've seen. How cool your friends with Mickey. It's hard for me to not see Mark Wahlberg when I think of Mickey after seeing his movie at the theater.
