Be warned: these are right off the top of my head, and I?m simply jotting down whatever faulty reasoning pops into my pea brain.
All lines from Pinnacle
Pittsburgh -10 over the Bills. Too many distractions and injuries for the Bills this week. They gave Denver a good game last Sunday, but the Bills may fall apart here. If they can circle the wagons and play their hearts out for Kevin Everett then maybe they have a chance, but my first instinct is that this is a terrible week for the Bills.
Bengals -6′ over the Browns. After week #1, all I?ve heard from pundits is that the Browns are terrible. I watched Cincy vs. Baltimore and they looked unstoppable in the first half, but awful in the second half. The Browns defense doesn?t have the horses the Ravens do, and I can?t imagine the Browns shutting down the Bengal offense. The Browns cannot be as awful as they?re made out to be, but since I haven?t seem them yet, I?ll go with the Bengals. (I told you these were crappy reasons)
Colts -7 over the Titans. What can I say? Based on strictly first impressions I cannot possibly take the Titans. Perhaps after hours and hours of talking myself into it, I might possibly be able to back the Titans, but that seems soooo unlikely. Did you watch the Colts last Thursday? Their defense played great, while their offense is on another level. The Colts were most impressive. I saw the Titans in person vs. the Jaguars and they were not impressive at all. Jacksonville just plain sucked.
Panthers -6′ over the Texans. Yes, it would appear I?m picking all favorites. David Carr will reveal to the Panthers coaching staff all the secrets about his former team. Matt Schaub, meet Julius Peppers. The Texans just signed a Will Demps to play safety this week. Demps, meet Steve Smith.
49ers +3′ over the Rams. The Rams rushing defense will have problems with Frank Gore, and the 49ers defense will have problems with Steven Jackson. I expect this to be one of the most exciting games of the week and I?ll take the points.
Giants -1 over the Packers. NY has some very high profile injuries, but I love the Hefty Lefty.
Falcons +10′ over the Jaguars. After the terrible performance Jacksonville turned in last week, there?s no way I would trust them to cover more than ten points. This might be the best game to fade me, as I feel very strongly about the Falcons covering here.
Saints -3′ over Buccaneers. I imagine the Saints have been pissed off since last Thursday when the Colts beat their ass in front of the world to open the NFL season. Clearly, the Saints are the better team. I expect this line to rise some more. Taking the Saints right now, in fact.
Lions -3 over the Vikings. There?s little chance I have action on this game. I don?t care for either team. The Vikings have the most dominant defensive tackles in football and just like last week, they may blow up the opposing offense, but I think the problem with Minnesota is that their offense is a one man show. Contain Adrian Peterson and the Lions win.
Dolphins +3′ over the Cowboys. The Dolphins went toe to toe with the Redskins last week and I was impressed. I thought Miami played solid football in all phases of the game and I don?t think the same can be said of the Cowboys. Their defense was destroyed by Eli and the Giants.
Cardinals +3 over the Seahawks. The Seahawks are the most overrated team in the NFL. Any team that goes out and trades for Charlie Frye is a sinking ship. Since Deion Branch didn?t catch anything in the last game, look for the Seahags to force the ball into him and turn the ball over. Love the Cardinals here.
Jets +10 over the Ravens. I have no idea. I think the Ravens just want to win. They?ll kick six field goals or something and even though they may dominate the Jets, they won?t cover. I?ll hope to get more points and play this closer to kickoff.
Raiders +10 over the Broncos. This is a coin flip. More study is required. My first instinct is that the Raider defense is very good, and they will not get blown out. The Raiders should have some success running the football and they?ll cover. Once again, I?ll hope for more points later in the week if I?m going to play this one.
Bears -12 over the Chiefs. The Bears struggle vs. the good teams, but destroy the bad teams. That?s my story and while it may turn out to be false once I run some numbers, the Bears are my pick for now.
Chargers +3′ over the Patriots. Without the use of their signal stealing cameras this week, the Patriots will be at a severe disadvantage. I?ve also heard so much about Randy moss and the incredible offensive line of the Patriots that I?m getting sick of it. A defense did manage to hold LT in check last week, but I doubt it happens two weeks in a row. Go Chargers!
Redskins +6′ over the Eagles. I still maintain that the Redskins are one of the most talented teams in the NFL. This looks like a great Monday night match-up, and I?ll take the generous points.
Once I begin my weekly research, my position on some of these games is bound to change. Fade away.
