1st 2 weeks have given me enough so that I can make some official picks. Got 4 on tap tonight.
All plays are 1 unit
New Jersey at Orlando
Gladiators have shown the ability to hang tough in games and rank 1st in the AFL in passing offense. Their game with Dallas was a lot closer than it should have been because 2 INTs were negated by questionable calls.
Predators got back on track against, what I feel is, an overrated Rush team. Gruden was efficient, but the offense did fumble the ball 4 times, losing 1.
Pred defense will have a stiff test against Jay McDonagh and I don't think they can pass it. Their defensive stats have been inflated and Glads have shown the heart to win outright here.
Pick: New Jersey +7
Grand Rapids at Chicago
Rampage got a wake up call last week when Indiana jumped on them early and an attempt to win the game was broken up on the last play. Clint Dozell does not take losing well and I think you'll see a better game out of him even though WR Michael Baker is out. HC Trigg is a good adjustment maker.
As I said earlier, I believe the Rush are getting too much respect. This team is better than last year, but Dicken is still a problem at QB, 5 INTs the 1st 2 weeks and they gained a meager 174 yards of total offense last week.
I will take the defending AFL Champ getting points every day of the week.
Pick: Grand Rapids +3
Los Angeles at Dallas
This line shot up this morning and I can't figure out why. LA is really benefiting from their new HC and a healthy Chris Jackson who can't be defended right now. Avenger defense is putting a lot of pressure on the QB and fell just short of beating Az last week.
Dallas lost a heartbreaker also last week as Andy Kelly was INTed in the endzone, however they were lucky to even be in that situation. NJ really dominated them stat-wise.
Even though this is the Dallas home opener, the inexperience will get to them here.
Pick: Los Angeles +4.5
Toronto at Arizona
Phantoms are probably the most complete team in the league right now. They've won 8 straight regular season games dating back to last year and have played good defensive, forcing 7 turnovers so far. Chad Salisbury is the league's #1 passer. The addition of Ty Law on defense has really helped.
Arizona narrowly escaped LA last week and will now be without their best defensive player Cecil Doggette. This will force Az to play a guy on defense, who hasn't been there since high school.
I expect Toronto to win this outright, they seem to be clicking on all cylinders.
