What do you think about the total? A man cannot help but to think this game is a shootout.

Pel, I have to think the game goes over but to be honest I feel that way about every Tech game. There's always a chance Patterson figures out a way to slow the Tech O down and the overall game as well.

What I think about the game-

I will say typically Tech's D sucks and the offense just has to out score teams and this D might not be any different. There is one edge that Tech has with their D in this game though. Wally's defense is new. He runs a 3-4 and so far has blitzed more than we're use to. That's good and bad I know but here's the good, he hasn't shown all of his blitz packages. There will be things that Boykin hasn't seen on video yet. I'm not saying this is going to allow Tech to stop TCU but I do think it will come into play in this game. A sack here and there and maybe a bad pass leading to a TO very well could be enough in this game. The Jones is a tough place to play for QBs. The wind plays tricks on you there and is something that never changes.

On offense Tech will be going up against a defense that IMO is very good. They have a great rusher and a great cover CB. They are thin though and I think that comes in to play in the 2nd half. Kingsbury is running this offense at a pace that is as fast or faster than anyone in the Big 12. SMU suffered in the 2nd half and I expect the same from the TCU guys. Fields, IMO, is one of the best pass rushers in the nation. Nothing sucks more for a guy like him then when the QB gets rid of the ball before he ever has a chance to get started. I expect a lot of quicks throws to keep him out of the game. Add to that blocking down by the RB and a pace by the offense that is very high and hopefully by the 2nd he's not near as effective. Last year Tech was without two of their top receivers in Marquez and Amaro. Marquez can do it all and is just a great athlete. He plays baseball for the Nets in the spring and summer and then comes back to play football in the fall. He's ability to give Tech a deep threat will be big in this game. Last year Tech didn't stretch the defense and it allowed the safeties to cover underneath routes. Amaro will be the key to Tech's success in this game. I've said it for the last two weeks but he's someone you just can't cover. He's fast, athletic, big and has tremendous hands. I'm not sure how TCU will handle him. I don't think their LBs good enough 1v1 to cover him and their nickel corner is too small. He will either have a GREAT game or open up space for the other WRs. I haven't mentioned Techs top WR in Ward but last year I believe he had 6 catches and 3 TDs. He's steady, uses his body well and has great hands.

Things that scare me in this game. Boykins ability to scramble. James and his speed at RB. IMO he has the chance to kill Tech but not by running the ball. I think he could kill them by catching it out of the backfield when he's in 1v1 situations with the LBs. I don't think Tech has the speed to keep up with him.

Keys to game

Amaro having big game on offense.

Techs defense ability to blitz.

I have no reason to think Tech won't be able to score. They have two very good WRs back that missed last year and for the first time in a long time have a QB that is willing to scramble.(didn't mention this in my write up but I do think if TCU sticks with man to man coverage this will be big)

The only thing I see different happening this year is CB Kevin White is better at covering . And I also don't thin Tech WR will get away with pushing off so much this year. TCU'DBs were very physical against LSU.

Regardless, Tech will score as will TCU. Just don't see another triple OT type score again.

LOL. Joe, if you read and talk to Tech people they'll say that TCUs DBs won't be able to hold as much. Really the only physical WR Tech has is Ward. He doesn't beat anyone with speed but he's a thick WR and likes to use his body and hands to get open. I guess he's crafty because he rarely if ever is called for offensive PI.

If it were to go one way I would say Tech gets the benefit of the doubt. Games in Lubbock are notorious for being VERY Tech friendly. So much so that my UT friends actually think there are shady things that go on with the refs.

Bama -7 2units buy the half

I love this game but I do respect Manziels play enough to keep it small. My biggest worry is a backdoor cover.
